Complimentary trigger locks and gun safety information will also be provided at each location.

All firearms should be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gun box, securely tied package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile in which they are being transported. Plan for smoking ban in Ridgewood parks moves forward

The Ridgewood News

Ridgewood council members are pushing ahead with a proposal to ban smoking in all village parks, but the governing body reached a consensus to exclude sidewalks and other specially requested areas from a future ordinance.
The Ridgewood Council is considering a smoking ban in village parks, similar to an ordinance recently enacted in Paramus.

The council can introduce the ordinance enacting the new regulations as early as Wednesday.

The village is one of several municipalities that have been recently targeted by Global Advisors Smokefree Policy (GASP), a statewide program intended to create smoke-free environments in all public parks. GASP representatives, with support from the village’s Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board, pitched their ideas in Ridgewood in January.

GASP has also appeared in Garfield, North Arlington, Wood-Ridge and Westwood, among other towns. If Ridgewood approves an ordinance, it will be the 15th municipality in Bergen County to adopt the 100 percent smoke-free parks policy.

NORTH HALEDON — A Garfield man who allegedly swiped keys from the owner of a strip mall on High Mountain Road and stole money from a barbershop also is under investigation for possession of stolen medical supplies from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, police said Tuesday.

Brian Dymkowski, 22, who owns IT Brainiacs, a computer repair shop at the mall, 567-581 High Mountain Road, was charged with burglary, theft, and theft of mislaid property — the keys to Donny’s Signature Barber Shop in the mall.

North Jersey law enforcement rang in the New Year with just a few motorists in custody on charges of driving while intoxicated.

Most police departments in Bergen and Passaic counties reported no DWI arrests Tuesday.

The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police arrested a juvenile on drunken driving charges, Garfield and Saddle Brook also logged one arrest each, while Fair Lawn officers took two drivers into custody overnight.

“It’s hard to really say why,” said Garfield Lt. Tim Brutosky, referring to the low number of arrests in town. “People are having parties all over the place, I guess it’s a matter of fate. We are out there patrolling, but I guess everyone was lucky last night.”

Troopers from the state police barracks in Bloomfield, who patrol the Garden State Parkway from Woodbridge to Montvale, arrested three people on DWI charges during the night, said Trooper Ian Rosenberg.

Sgt. Adam Grossman, public information officer for the New Jersey State Police, said statewide figures on DWI arrests wouldn’t be tallied until after 6 a.m. today, the end of the holiday period. But he said more troopers were patrolling the highways and were on the lookout for drivers who may have been driving drunk.

N.J. Superior Court judges beware: Gov. Christie may be going after you

Gov. Chris Christie is expected to dump several state Superior Court judges in the coming weeks as the battle over judicial appointments heats up again.

Last week at a town hall meeting, Christie said he’s fed up with the judiciary, which he views as too activist.

“So I’m being much more discriminating about who I renominate. They have bills in to rubber stamp automatically. I’m not doing that. You’re going to be seeing me do less of that in the coming weeks,” Christie told the audience in Garfield. “I’m doing this because I’m at wit’s end about how to change this bench in the state.”  (Spoto, The Star-Ledger)

>Americans brace for next foreclosure wave

>Americans brace for next foreclosure wave
By Nick Carey
GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio | Wed Apr 4, 2012 7:09pm EDT

(Reuters) – Half a decade into the deepest U.S. housing crisis since the 1930s, many Americans are hoping the crisis is finally nearing its end. House sales are picking up across most of the country, the plunge in prices is slowing and attempts by lenders to claim back properties from struggling borrowers dropped by more than a third in 2011, hitting a four-year low.

But a painful part two of the slump looks set to unfold: Many more U.S. homeowners face the prospect of losing their homes this year as banks pick up the pace of foreclosures.

“We are right back where we were two years ago. I would put money on 2012 being a bigger year for foreclosures than 2010,” said Mark Seifert, executive director of Empowering & Strengthening Ohio’s People (ESOP), a counseling group with 10 offices in Ohio.
