5 Mahwah Fire Companies Respond to an Early Morning House Fire

Mahwah NJ, This morning around 4am Mahwah Fire, Police, and EMS were dispatched to a home who’s residents awoke to smoke in the house. First arriving units confirmed thick black smoke coming from the home. Thankfully all residents were able to exit the home on their own with the assistance of Mahwah Police and fire units quickly began locating and extinguishing the blaze. Unfortunately the deep seated fire in the basement ravaged the home and made its way throughout almost every room and into the attic. All 5 Mahwah fire companies worked together to extinguish bulk of the fire, subsequent hot spots and the fire was placed under control around 7am.

Mahwah NJ, As per Mahwah Police Captain of Patrol – Executive Officer Stuart Blank, one (1) summons for Careless Driving was issued in connection with incident in which a dump truck’s body became dislodged from its chassis and smashed into the overpass of MacArthur Boulevard at Route 17 northbound in Mahwah.

Pollotta stated ,”As many of you know, my own testing revealed elevated arsenic levels in the soil late last year—a key ingredient in the pesticides used on the property decades ago.

Coyote Attacks Women in Mahwah

Mahwah NJ, Mahwah Police report that a resident was bitten several times by a coyote Friday evening. Around 6:15 p.m., a woman was walking on Grenadier Drive when she encountered the coyote, which attacked her.

She was able to force the coyote off by striking it with a baseball bat she picked up in a nearby driveway. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for bite injuries. The women remained in the hospital Till Saturday afternoon.

Mahwah Fire Reports Very Busy Week

Mahwah NJ, Mahwah Fire Department report a busy week .

Sunday all 5 companies were dispatched to a structure fire at a commercial restaurant on Franklin Turnpike. Crews worked quickly to control the spread of the fire on the roof and confirm the extension into the building. Multiple mutual aid departments were requested due to the heat.

On the the Facebook page for the Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp , the name of the prayer site a member rejoiced by saying,”Power of prayer! These people are wonderful people! I’ve met them twice. They are strong and stand 10 feet tall! They walk in a good way and are very generous. Very humble. This is fantastic news! I’m happy for them! Great victory for the Ramapough People!  “

Mahwah Police,Fire and EMS Aid Driver of Overturned Dump Truck

Mahwah NJ, Mahwah Police, Mahwah Fire Department, and Mahwah EMS responded to aid the driver of a tandem axle dump truck that overturned on an entrance ramp to the Pilot Travel Center, 230 Route 17, Mahwah on Friday morning, 05/10. The driver self extricated via the vehicle’s passenger side door and refused ambulance transport. Mahwah firefighters attended to a hydraulic fluid leak and remained on the scene awaiting the arrival of a heavy duty tow truck to right the vehicle.

Mahwah Finally Has A New Police Chief

Mahwah NJ, After weeks of delays Mahwah has a new police chief . Captain Jaffe was finally appointed Police Chief by a 5-2 Vote . After weeks of tabling the vote on the mayoral appointment for police chief, Mahwah can now officially call Stephen Jaffe, Chief of Police.

The town council has approved the mayoral appointment by a 5-2 vote at tonight’s special council meeting with Ferguson, Ariemma, Paz, Wong and May voting yes and Wysocki and Ervin voting no.

According to the group Mahwah Strong on February 24th, Mayor John Roth appointed Captain Stephen Jaffe to replace retiring Chief James Batelli. The appointment requires approval by the town council.
