Jackson Hole Wy, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell says the US central bank is prepared to raise interest rates even further if need be until inflation is back on track at 2%. “Although inflation has moved down from its peak—a welcome development—it remains too high,” Powell said Friday at the central bank’s annual conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He welcomed the slower price gains the US economy has achieved under tighter monetary policy and loosening supply constraints. However, he cautioned that the process “still has a long way to go, even with the more favorable recent readings.”

SEC Charges 11 Wall Street Firms for use of Signal, WhatsApp to Evade Regulators’ Scrutiny

Washington D.C. , the Securities and Exchange Commission today announced charges against 10 firms in their capacity as broker-dealers and one dually registered broker-dealer and investment adviser for widespread and longstanding failures by the firms and their employees to maintain and preserve electronic communications. The firms admitted the facts set forth in their respective SEC orders. They acknowledged that their conduct violated recordkeeping provisions of the federal securities laws, agreed to pay combined penalties of $289 million as outlined below, and have begun implementing improvements to their compliance policies and procedures to address these violations.

Ridgewood NJ, on Friday U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the US economy added 187,000 jobs in July, below economist estimates of 200,000 and slightly above the downwardly revised 185,000 jobs in June. The unemployment rate dropped to 3.5%, from 3.6% in June and 3.7% in May. Average hourly earnings grew 0.4% month-over-month and 4.4% year-over-year, matching June. The number continue to suggests the “Goldilocks scenario” of a not-too-cold, not-too-hot sweet spot of sustainable growth
