Ridgewood Chamber Spotlight: Yummy Tummy Meals

The Ridgewood News

Bernice Dezelan’s three “guinea pigs” are her children — Anthony, 8, Sofia, 4, and Victoria, 20 months. They are the inspiration and main product testers for the delicious food her business, “Yummy Tummy Meals,” delivers locally to other nutrition conscious, busy families.

Dezelan, who has lived in Ridgewood for the past three years, does all of her cooking at night at local, FDA-licensed commercial kitchens, where she rents space. Currently the online menu offers food for babies, toddlers and children, but the creative cook is already thinking ahead to offering complete family meals in the future.

The business evolved from Dezelan’s passion to feed her children food that was fresh and organic. To offer other parents those same wholesome meals, she first shared her original recipes on her own food blog.

“I knew there was a need for parents to have access to fresh meals for babies and children that they would actually love eating,” she said. When the family moved to Ridgewood with two children and expecting a third, she knew it was the perfect time to start her dream baby food delivery company.

Parking fees for Ridgewood’s pay-by-phone service are set

The Ridgewood News

An ordinance establishing fees for paying parking meters through cell phones was adopted unanimously by the Village Council on March 11 after a minor tweak was made to allow for a reduction on the transaction fee.

The new ordinance seemed set for passage as it was, but during the public hearing, a member of the audience noted the language contained in the new mandate could potentially mitigate any discounts that may be offered by ParkMobile.

At metered spots in the village, parkers will continue to pay 50 cents an hour and will have the choice to use quarters or ParkMobile. A 35-cent transaction fee is added for those using the new technology.

In places where meters will not be available, such as the Park & Ride on Route 17, commuters will be able to utilize ParkMobile, Ridgewood Parking Permits (RPP) or daily passes.

Boyd Loving, a South Irving Street resident, said the ordinance up for consideration would not allow for ParkMobile to reduce the transaction fee if they chose to do so in the future.

How an ‘expensive’ N.J. community might handle town-by-town minimum wage proposal

MONTCLAIR — A township official says an Assembly proposal that would allow municipalities in New Jersey to set their own minimum wages would be plausible, and likely passable, in Montclair. But, he says he’s not convinced that it’s the most effective way to increase the minimum wage in New Jersey. (Mazolla/NJ.com)

Harlan Coben to kick off book tour in Ridgewood

The Ridgewood News

New York Times bestselling author and Ridgewood resident Harlan Coben is certainly no “stranger” to the Ridgewood community.

Although his latest novel, “The Stranger” will be released on March 24, Ridgewood residents will be among the lucky few to be able to purchase the book a day before everyone else. Coben will hold a kickoff appearance for his book tour at 7 p.m.. on Monday, March 23 at Bookends, 211 East Ridgewood Ave.

In this page-turning thriller, the plot centers around a suburban New Jersey family whose picturesque life is threatened by a mysterious man. Once protagonist Adam Price learns a secret about his wife Corinne from the unknown man, he is led to a much darker situation than the secret itself. He discovers that if he doesn’t play his cards exactly right, lives may not only be destroyed, but ended.

Coben’s novels capture relatable situations and characters but surprise readers with twists and turns that keep them guessing for what’s to come.
