Reader loses Health Insurance due to Obamcare
Barry W

Once again our democrat president is a liar or not contingent on their trivial definition of a word. Well, while they are bickering this is what you can call proof. My HMO healthcare plan did not qualify for ACA and was eliminated and I and my employer now pay much more for less of a plan.

Meena just got a letter that her traditional healthcare plan was eliminated and is no longer being provided through her employer, and has to use “the market” and will have to pay for it completely out of pocket.

How in the world is this better? All we’ve gotten is a disaster bred from incompetence and a dream on nothing but lies and deceit from day one. I am totally disgusted.

Who likes this guy?

Readers don’t buy “Zero effect,”

Readers don’t buy “Zero effect,”

If you think Valley exists in a bubble, think again. For eg., if you were at the meeting the other night you heard a resident ask Ms. Brogan if she knew that her son had been hit by a car exiting Valley, and that her daughter had been propositioned by a crossing guard attached to Valley. Assuming she reported any of this to the police, do you think it would have been a Ridgewood cop that would have investigated it ? I don’t think the cops who handled/investigated did so as a “side job,” do you ? So, who pays for it ? And who pays for the firemen on the trucks who respond to Valley’s constant needs ? Since we pay for it now, why the hell would you not pay for more of it when they more than double in size ?

As to the press, If your looking to buy a bridge I’ll sell you one ! Did you see any mention of the above in either the Record or The Ridgewood News ? I didn’t, but it sure did shock a lot of people in that audience the other night. Do you think having a picture of a resident on the front page of a county newspaper speaking against a ridiculous expansion is a good thing ?

“Vibrant downtown ?” Where do live ? Maybe on weekends, but no where close to what it was. And I just don’t know what my family and I will do if another dining spot leaves.

As for Hackensack, I’m (unfortunately) old enough to remember when the neighborhood around the the hospital was quite nice. Tell me, do you really think that as Hackensack Hospital expanded it benefited the town ? It contributed to the “blight,” just as St Joseph’s did in Paterson.

“Zero effect,” I doubt it.

Obamacare enrollments got off to very slow start, documents show

Obamacare enrollments got off to very slow start, documents show

(CBS News) WASHINGTON – For 31 days now, the Obama administration has been telling us that Americans by the millions are visiting the new health insurance website, despite all its problems.

But no one in the administration has been willing to tell us how many policies have been purchased, and this may be the reason: CBS News has learned enrollments got off to an incredibly slow start.

Early enrollment figures are contained in notes from twice-a-day “war room” meetings convened within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services after the website failed on Oct. 1. They were turned over in response to a document request from the House Oversight Committee.

The website launched on a Tuesday. Publicly, the government said there were 4.7 million unique visits in the first 24 hours. But at a meeting Wednesday morning, the war room notes say “six enrollments have occurred so far.”

Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital : Dog and Cat Health Alert – Jerky Pet Treats

Vicious_dog_theridgewoodblog.net_-225x300

Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital : Dog and Cat Health Alert – Jerky Pet Treats
October 24, 2013 @ 02:31 PM — by Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital

The FDA has issued a warning asking consumers and veterinarians to be on the lookout for illnesses caused by jerky pet treats.  Over 3600 dogs and 10 cats to date have reportedly become ill from eating jerky pet treats made with chicken, duck, sweet potato, dried fruit, and combinations of these ingredients, mostly made in China.  To date, the FDA has not been able to identify the cause of the illness, but the correlation between eating the treats and the number of illnesses has warranted the investigation, and they are asking for veterinarians and consumers to report any suspected cases.

Since treats are not a necessary part of a pet’s diet, the FDA and the American Veterinary Medical Association commented that eliminating them will not harm pets.  Since the veterinarians at the Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital are uncertain at this time what the outcome of this investigation will be and your pet’s safety is our first concern, we also recommend eliminating jerky treats from unknown origins from your pet’s diet.   We have confirmation from Hill’s Pet Nutrition that the ingredients in the Science Diet Jerky Snacks that we carry in our hospital are completely made in the USA, and that their product has not been named in the reported complaints.

Most pets who have been affected with illness have had symptoms within hours to days of eating the products.  Symptoms include decreased appetite, decreased activity, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes with blood or mucous), increased water consumption and/or increased urination.  Severe cases are diagnosed with pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, and kidney failure or the resemblance of a rare kidney related illness called Fanconi syndrome.  Many have recovered from the illness, but the FDA has reports of more than 580 deaths.

If you think your pet has contracted any illness due to the treats, you can help the FDA’s investigation by reporting complaints through the Safety Reporting Portal:

https://www.safetyreporting.hhs.gov/fpsr/WorkflowLoginIO.aspx?metinstance=EFDF267DA45D7EBEBF73F679E1F1763C1EE136F5

You can also contact the pet food/treats company and alert them about your pet’s illness (see packaging information).

Same-sex marriage requests met with confusion, frustration in some N.J. towns

Same-sex marriage requests met with confusion, frustration in some N.J. towns

Whether the first day of same-sex marriage in North Jersey was a joyous celebration, or a heartbreaking disappointment, depended on location and a sympathetic ear.

In Hawthorne, Jeff Gardner was able to say “I do” Monday to Ari Lash, his partner of 13 years, after he showed the proper paperwork to a Passaic County judge, who waived the state’s 72-hour waiting period for nuptials. Christian Reinhardt and Marijan Por did the same in Bergen County court and tied the knot hours later, as their 8-year-old daughter looked on.

A Bergen County judge dashed the hopes of high school sweethearts Sophie Papanikolaou and Teri Noel, of Fair Lawn, telling them they didn’t meet the legal requirements and had to wait until Thursday to make their 34-year relationship a legal marriage.

“I’m frustrated, I’m furious, I’m hurt,” Papanikolaou said. “We expected a rubber stamp. We’ve been together 34 years. Why would [the judge] give a flying leap?”

Confusion over how New Jersey’s marriage laws apply to gay couples seemed to be the key problem in local communities, as municipal officials and eager couples tried to make sense of it all. As of Thursday, there was no gay marriage in New Jersey. On Friday, suddenly there was, after the state Supreme Court rejected Governor Christie’s request to hold off on allowing same-sex marriages while his administration appealed a lower court ruling. Study: 15 percent of US youth out of school, work

Study: 15 percent of US youth out of school, work
By PHILIP ELLIOTT
— Oct. 21, 2013 6:17 AM EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) — Almost 6 million young people are neither in school nor working, according to a study released Monday.

That’s almost 15 percent of those aged 16 to 24 who have neither desk nor job, according to The Opportunity Nation coalition, which wrote the report.

Other studies have shown that idle young adults are missing out on a window to build skills they will need later in life or use the knowledge they acquired in college. Without those experiences, they are less likely to command higher salaries and more likely to be an economic drain on their communities.

“This is not a group that we can write off. They just need a chance,” said Mark Edwards, executive director of the coalition of businesses, advocacy groups, policy experts and nonprofit organizations dedicated to increasing economic mobility. “The tendency is to see them as lost souls and see them as unsavable. They are not.”

11:53 AM, Oct 16, 2013 • By DANIEL HALPER

National Park Service director Jarvis said he discussed closing the open-air monuments and memorials with the White House, as well as the secretary of the Interior Department:

“Yes, I did,” says the director when asked whether he discussed the closures with the secretary of the Interior Department.

“You didn’t discuss it with anyone in the White House, did you?” asks a congressman.

“Um, in — several times, on the phone, with the White House, I presented with the secretary my decission,” says the director. “But it was never the reverse–”

Gobble tov! American Jews ready for Thanksgivukkah

Gobble tov! American Jews ready for Thanksgivukkah
By LEANNE ITALIE

NEW YORK (AP) — It’s a turkey. It’s a menorah. It’s Thanksgivukkah!

An extremely rare convergence this year of Thanksgiving and the start of Hanukkah has created a frenzy of Talmudic proportions.

There’s the number crunching: The last time it happened was 1888, or at least the last time since Thanksgiving was declared a federal holiday by President Lincoln, and the next time may have Jews lighting their candles from spaceships 79,043 years from now, by one calculation.

There’s the commerce: A 9-year-old New York boy invented the “Menurkey” and raised more than $48,000 on Kickstarter for his already trademarked, Turkey-shaped menorah. Woodstock-inspired T-shirts have a turkey perched on the neck of a guitar and implore “8 Days of Light, Liberty & Latkes.” The creators nabbed the trademark to “Thanksgivukkah.”
