>Occupy Wall Street Protesters Call For Totalitarian Government, Re-Election Of Obama
There is something very wrong with this picture

Sunday, October 2, 2011

Despite their honest intentions, many of the Occupy Wall Street protesters are being suckered into a trap and calling for the very “solutions” that are part of the financial elite’s agenda to torpedo the American middle class – higher taxes and more big government.
Watch the clip below in which journalist Adam Kokesh talks to Occupy Wall Street protesters.

The ignorance displayed in this interviews knows no bounds. These protesters just don’t get it. They are calling for the government to use force to impose their ideas, all in the name of bringing down corporations who they don’t realize have completely bought off government regulators. Corporations and government enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship – getting one to regulate the other is asinine and only hurts smaller businesses who are legitimately trying to compete in a free market economy that barely exists.

>No Surprise here Democrats push tax hikes first in deficit talks

>No Surprise here Democrats push tax hikes first in deficit talks

(Reuters) – Democrats want tax hikes to be the first item negotiated in “super committee” deficit-reduction talks, trying to force Republicans to confront an issue at the heart of this year’s budget fights, sources told Reuters.

The tough stance by Democratic members of the powerful 12-member congressional panel reflects the party’s wariness that Republicans might try to sideline the issue of revenue increases in the negotiations.

“They’ve raised the idea of doing taxes first,” a Republican aide involved in the discussions said on Friday on condition of anonymity.

The panel has the task of finding ways of cutting the deficit by at least $1.2 trillion over 10 years. If it fails to agree on a plan by November 23, automatic spending cuts will be triggered, beginning in 2013.

Blessing of the Animals – Bring Your Favorite Pet

Reading many comments made directing such mean spirited thoughts towards cats and dogs, the reality is, its not the cats or dogs fault for doing what is simply natural for them being a domestic pet, rather its their Owner’s fault for not training their pets and simply showing disregard for their neighbors, whether it be due to the owner’s lazyness, ignorance or out right lack of respect towards other people. Some people don’t care and put their pets annoyances over people.

Some commentors claim to be pet owners themselves and vow they love all other critters.

If the owners have no regard towards others, by letting dogs bark endlessly, roam free unleashed, not ‘curb’ and ‘pick up’, some breeds are very noisy, there are town ordinances to remind them. Ordinances can be updated. Some people use pet doors, as those encourage unsupervised freedom to the outdoors. Not a good idea cause wild critters can get indoors that way too.

Love both cats and dogs and natures critters. Cats are quiet and sweet. Dogs are your companion. Most people are responsible pet owners, its unfortunate there are a few who are not. Thats life.

I see an announcement on Village web – Blessing of the Animals, Oct. 8, 11:AM celebrating the Feast of St. Francis, at Christ Church , Cottage Pl. (across Stop&Shop). All pets are welcome.

Blessing of the Animals – Bring Your Favorite Pet – All Are Welcome!

Please consider bringing a donation of one or more of the items from the RBARI “wish list,” which is printed on the back of this page. The service will be at the outside altar, by the entrance to the Nursery School on Franklin Avenue. In the event of rain, the service will take place inside the church. Refreshments will be provided. New legislation would require resident notifications of sewer system overflow

New legislation would require resident notifications of sewer system overflow

The leader of the state Senate’s environment committee Wednesday said he will introduce legislation that would require cities and towns to tell residents when outdated sewer systems overflow and spill a dangerous brew of raw waste into New Jersey’s waterways.

In addition, lawmakers plan to hold a hearing this fall on how to fix antiquated systems that dump more than 23 billion gallons of waste into rivers and the ocean each year.

“The public has a right to know when these sewer overflows occur if for no other reason than to protect themselves,” said Sen. Bob Smith (D-Middlesex), who chairs the upper house’s environment panel.  (Baxter, The Star-Ledger)

Free roaming cats. They kill everything I love

van gogh counch shot

Free roaming cats. They kill everything I love

I need to get this off my chest in regard to free roaming cats. They kill everything I love – they are hyperpredators, often killing for sport – not food. Whole nests of baby cardinals and baby robins (including one of the parent birds) were killed in just our yard alone – just killed, their heads ripped off, their wings broken – not eaten. This has happened to whole nests of baby bunnies, too. To hear their death screams is like listening to children getting brutally murdered. It’s horrible. Steven King could take a lesson.

I was once told by Tyco Animal Control that this is “the cycle of life”. Maybe for the cats, but certainly not for the helpless, fragile animals and birds they senselessly torment, totture, skin alive, then kill. Keep your G- Damn cats inside. I am sick of listening to death screams and cleaning up bloodied, mutilated bodies. The hearts of our dwindling birds and wildlife have just as much right to beat as your nasty, murderous, hateful cats’. Keep cats indoors only PLEASE. Keep them leashed and under control when out!Animal Control please do your job! If this is not the very definition of out of control I don’t know what is!Please.

>Greenwich CT has a hospital

>Greenwich CT has a hospital

Greenwich CT has a hospital set right in a residential area of town. Houses on all 4 sides of the building. Pull it up on Google Maps – 5 Perryridge Road, Greenwich CT 06830.

From the Greenwich Hospital website: Greenwich Hospital is a 174-bed regional hospital, serving Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York. It is a major academic affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine and a member of the Yale New Haven Health System.

Since opening in 1903, Greenwich Hospital has evolved into a progressive medical center and teaching institution with an internal medicine residency.

We represent all medical specialties and offer a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic and wellness programs. High quality care, coupled with Greenwich Hospital’s convenient location, are reasons many patients choose to be treated here.

As for additions, Greenwich Hospital  just recently completed a 150,000 sq ft expansion.

However according to US News and World Report (https://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals) Greenwich Hospital is substantially smaller and less busy than Valley Hospital. Perhaps that is why it fits in so well. If Valley were to reduce to Greenwich’s size by letting Pascack reopen and scaling back their size, I’d be delighted to support reconstruction to switch to all one-patient rooms.

Valley Hospital
446 beds.
30,878 admissions latest year
8,276 annual inpatient surgeries9,629 outpatient surgeries.
72,085 emergency room visits.

Greenwich Hospital
174 beds.
11,082 admissions latest year.
2,251 inpatient surgeries
7,141 outpatient surgeries.
43,285 emergency room visits.

Question:
Would you call Greenwich a “city” or “town”?
I’d call it one of the most beautiful, exclusive and respected towns in the whole country. Guess the whole idea of Hospitals and exclusive towns being mutually exclusive is bunk.

>Ridgewood was more about real community back then same size Village and actually far more kids in school than there are currently

>Ridgewood was more about real community back then same size Village and actually far more kids in school than there are currently

That was always a busy intersection. Fact is quite a few years ago there was a big white dot in the middle of it.

And if you were to have looked back then, for several years you would have found ME standing in the middle of that “dot”, directing traffic and helping other kids cross. Also some other longtime Village folks did same.

That intersection was “covered” back then by the kid-staffed safety patrol.

A paid retired officer covered Van Dien further down, near what was then the main entrance to Travell, which back then you went to for K through 4. It was about 1/2 of the current BF site – the part closest to Valley.

Then for 5&6 you went around the corner to Travell Annex, no longer there, which was on the site of what’s now the field for current Travell (the Glen Ave side).

Most of the traffic there back then was not Valley traffic though. It was parents. The entire Valley plant back then was what’s now the doctor parking lot on Linwood. There was a big curved driveway in and out of Linwood.

The oldest Valley building still there now is Phillips. It was built during the time I went to Travell and BF and greatly increased the size of the hospital, but it was still very much a community facility in the real meaning (to me) of the word.

Kurth Cottage was the only part of Valley not right off Linwood. And it was… a cottage on Van Dien.

Us safety patrol folk had to show up early to help kids cross, but we did get out of school a little early too – to cover that and several other intersections.

You got a big flag, a whistle (really!) and short training by the police. And off you went to help other kids cross.

Though the Glen and Van Dien spot was about the busiest the little unit covered, this simple plan actually worked.

Ridgewood was more about real community back then, and for that matter, so was Valley.

Yet, same size Village, roughly same population.. and actually far more kids in school than there are currently.

Leaner and more focused overall, and much friendlier at same time. You got things done in a much simpler way and the offcials at Village Hall and the BOE were a lot more responsive in ways that got things resolved, not just run-arounds. They didn’t go off on turf, light, Village Hall and similar “adventures” either.

Gee, must sound like Mayberry, huh? Or perhaps, Ho Ho Kus? Yet, same size, more kids in school, and roughly 25,000 population.
Less layers of administration and loads less baloney though.

That’s a Friday afternoon’s trip in the wayback machine, hope y’all enjoyed it.

>Florence Schedler property: Readers Urge Caution

>Florence Schedler property: Readers Urge Caution

I hope the Village can find some new donors for Schedler. I would guess that anyone who donated to the Maple Field project will in no way financially support a Schedler project after watching in disgust as the Village has let a million dollar gift disintegrate in such a short period of time.

I think that we need to pause and reflect before we develop another field. We need to identify our “needs” and “wants”.

We also need to look at all the resident push back on this type of development. Don’t start another fight for no reason. I doubt that people who contributed in the past will be looking to contribute again. Maybe the land should be left as open space with walking paths.

I don’t think that they will be able to raise any money for more fields. The residents are tapped out and tired of the wasteful spending on the last projects. There is no one competent enough to do a good job. Look at maple, Stevens and the stadium. Some money was raised and the village taxpayers are on the hook for most of the expenses.

>Valley Renewal : The little guy who goes to work every day and pays taxes does not matter!

I don’t agree that Valley Hospital is a non-profit that serves the greater good nor do I agree with the scale of what they are looking to do. The Westwood area wants a good Hospital the a large number of us do not want Valley to expand to the degree they are demanding. In a perfect world the people of Ridgewood and Westwood would get what they want.

But, this is not a perfect world it is the real world. The sad truth is that Ridgewood was urbanized years ago and many of us still long for the Ridgewood of the past. A Ridgewood that is long gone.

I hate to admit it but the Valley expansion is a foregon conclusion. If the Village does not approve it Valley will go to court and the courts will approval all or most of the plan.

I truly wish I would turn out to be wrong, but a lifetime of dealing with government and big business tell me otherwise. The little guy who goes to work every day and pays taxes does not matter!

>Concerned Residents of Ridgewood : the Issues with "Valley Renewal"

>
Valley Hospital is proposing a $750 million, ten-year expansion project. The following information is presented to inform you of some of the aspects of this proposed project, and the impact they will have on your life and our Village.

https://www.stopvalley.com/TheIssues.html

Current Status: Valley has managed to convince the Ridgewood Planning Board to vote 6/1 in favor of changing the Village Master Plan to allow them to proceed to the next stage, where Ordinance approval from the Council is required. Significant action is required to stop this! Consider the issues:
1.           Blank Check – The unprecedented freedom of development that Valley Hospital has proposed, in changes to the Village Master Plan, would provide them with a “blank check” to develop their site in any manner in which they choose.  This privileged status should not be granted to any property owner in the Village.

2.           Space Deficiency – Valley estimates that 30 acres are needed to create a single campus for all its activities.  They are trying to add over 500,000 square feet of development to the existing 15.2 acre site – over 200% more buildings.  The magnitude of the deficit is so great that this site will not be able to absorb this additional square footage without changing the character of the entire east side of Ridgewood.

3.           Utilization of the Facility – If approved, Valley would be free to use the space as they see fit, without requiring future Village approvals.  The nature of health care has evolved significantly in the time since Valley’s last major expansion. Indeed, short stays and the frequent turnover of beds at Valley are a major contributing factor in the serious traffic problems which have developed on local streets. Our neighborhoods have had to bear the brunt of this evolution and its impact upon quality of life, without complaint, but there does come a time when we must say “STOP!”

4.           Parking – Consistent with the change in Use, Valley acknowledges that there is also a significant parking deficit (400 spaces) at the site as it is used today. This is an indication of how differently the site is used today from what was previously reviewed in an approval process.

5.           Emergency Department – Since the Emergency Department expansion in 2001, emergency room visits are up over 25% from the projected volumes conveyed in that application.   These volumes (62,000 vs 49,000) represent ER visits prior to the Pascack Valley-related volume increases.

6.           Density – The Valley proposal is to add 200% more floor area which is against the precedent set in 1996. At that time Valley had to remove a 21,000 square foot building (Kraft Building) in order for the Zoning Board of Adjustment to approve the 1996 expansion, due to the “bulk” that would be added to the site as part of that project.

7.           Sympathetic Zoning – Planning professionals who have been consulted, have warned that if Valley is given leeway to develop to these standards in the H-zone, they will form a new standard of what’s acceptable in Ridgewood, and could undermine efforts to contain large developments in other zones of the Village.

8.           Land Use Law – Valley has not presented any arguments based on land use to support its case to change Ridgewood’s zoning.  The towns cited by Valley as comparable are not at all similar to Ridgewood.  The hospitals in these towns are not adjacent to a middle school nor are they one block from a grammar school.  Additionally, those town’s residential and commercial standards have not been compared to Ridgewood’s to show that the Ridgewood hospital zone is more restrictive on a relative basis.

9.           Healthcare – Valley Hospital is a fine health-care facility and we are grateful for their presence.  Unfortunately, they are now trying to use the societal benefits they provide as a tool to get corporate benefits no other land owner in Ridgewood would even consider possible.  What if Merck or Johnson and Johnson wanted to build a plant on that site that would produce life saving drugs with the same societal benefits and environmental impacts as the hospital?  Would we be having this conversation?

10.     Dialogue – Valley has pursued this effort as an “all or nothing” battle, and they refuse to have a serious dialogue about the issues or confront any group which may be opposed to their expansion plan. This implies an attitude of insensitivity and arrogance towards the residents, and accentuates their plan of dealing solely with governing officials.

11.     It’s Our Money – All of the money that Valley is spending on their “Renewal” campaign comes from us, the well-insured, paying patients who utilize the hospital.  We pay substantial fees to use their facilities and we are grateful for their quality care and close proximity, but they are well-compensated for the care they provide us.  What about the burden that their presence puts on the Village of Ridgewood?  Are we adequately compensated for that?

The “Renewal” is Really an Expansion

Valley Hospital calls their proposal a “Renewal” because the number of registered beds will only be increased by 3. However, the Valley proposal is really an expansion because:
The total floor space will increase significantly (200%)
The total building height will increase from 5 stories to the equivalent of 7 under the existing code and totaling 94 feet high (70 ft of buildings + 24 ft of rooftop mechanicals)
The number of parking spaces will be increased to 2,000 spaces
There will be more buildings and less open space
Things to Consider
Impact on Ben Franklin Middle School during the estimated 6.8 years of construction just for Phase One. There are more Phases planned. Valley has stated on the record that it “reserves the right” to continue expanding in the future
Increased traffic especially of heavy construction vehicles on the surrounding streets
Effect on children traveling to and from BF, Travell and RHS
Concrete and asbestos dust and other emissions – especially diesel exhaust
If you live in Ridgewood, your quality of life will be affected by the Hospital’s plans.

If you are concerned about the negative impact the Valley Hospital expansion will have on your life and on the Village of Ridgewood, PLEASE let your council people know, attend the meetings, and join us, the Concerned Residents of Ridgewood.  Register
