Climate Witch Hunt Is Bad For Science, Bad For Witch Hunters

by H. Sterling Burnett
March 26, 2015

Desperate times breed desperate measures, and for climate alarmists these are desperate times.

There has been no measurable global warming for 18 years. The majority of polar bear populations are stable or growing; hurricane landfalls have been virtually nonexistent in the United States for a decade; cold temperature and snowfall records are being set daily (more than 2,600 cold temperature records were set or broken between February 19 and February 25 of this year alone); Antarctica is setting sea ice records in the middle of its summer; and in the Arctic, the much ballyhooed sea ice decline of the late 1990 and early 2000s has recovered over the past two years.

By almost every metric, the predictions made by climate change believers have failed or are failing, and reasons for climate alarm are fading from view as a result.

Perhaps this explains climate alarmists’ desperate attempts to smear the reputations of climate researchers who scientifically reject any aspect of the “human-catastrophic-climate-change-connection.”

The latest salvo in this desperate gambit comes from Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), ranking member of the House of Representatives Committee on Environment and Natural Resources. He sent a letter to seven university presidents demanding information on funding sources and all draft testimony and exchanges relating to the testimony of select researchers who have testified before Congress on climate change issues and did not express an alarmist view.

Parking – and lack thereof – was the main focus of a Central Business District (CBD) forum held at Christ Episcopal Church on March 18 as village officials, residents and Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce representatives gathered for an informal panel discussion.

Over the course of the 90-minute session, the panel and audience covered strategies for building garages on municipal land, the parking space deficit in the CBD and the implementation of paying for parking with mobile phones.

The evening forum was hosted by Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli and featured a panel that included Mayor Paul Aronsohn, Chamber of Commerce President Paul Vagianos, Citizen Safety Advisory Committee Chair Charles Demarco and Janet Fricke, assistant to the village manager.

WHO: Yaron Svoray shares his adventures putting neo-Nazis behind bars and recovering Nazi treasures from France and Germany.

WHEN: 4:30 p.m. Sunday. There will be a reception with wine and light fare shortly before the lecture, sponsored by Joan and Daniel Silna of Saddle River.

WHERE: Temple Israel, 475 Grove St., Ridgewood; ssnj.org or 201-337-1111, ext. 208.

HOW MUCH: $35, students $25.

It might sound like a life of adventure: traveling the world, uncovering stolen Nazi treasures, going undercover to infiltrate underground networks of terror and bringing their leaders to justice.

But if there’s one thing that makes Yaron Svoray cringe, it’s anything that even remotely suggests his life is glamorous. To the general public, Svoray might be best known for his hunt of Nazi-era diamonds. Svoray’s search was documented on the History Channel’s special, “Blood From a Stone,” based on his book of the same title. But his recovery of Nazi treasures in France and Germany should not be overblown, he said.

GLEN ROCK — The Borough Council agreed to reinstate police officers Christopher McInerney and Bryan Scott Wednesday evening, moving to return both officers to the force nearly three months after they were suspended.

The decision was made at the Glen Rock council’s meeting Wednesday night, which was attended by some 40 police supporters, including several of Scott and McInerney’s fellow borough officers.

Applause filled the room after the council approved a pair of resolutions, read aloud by Mayor John van Kuren, restoring Scott to his position as a borough police officer and McInerney to his rank as sergeant.

A wave of relief washed over Scott’s face, and he kissed his wife, Ellen. His mother, Pat, smiled at her son.

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

Ridgewood education leaders have outlined several forms of action that the district will consider as it works toward the goals established during community planning sessions last fall.

At a March 9 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Daniel Fishbein reviewed the laundry list of action items created to address five distinct BOE goal areas: student achievement, communication, diversity, facilities and technology.

These areas were identified during an hours-long brainstorming process, which brought together school board trustees, administrators, students and community members in September. Goals were then refined by a consulting firm, which presented its report to the BOE and the public in November, and accepted by the BOE.

In its 24-page presentation, Sousa and Stern Education Consultants provided a blank sample plan of action for the BOE to complete while including benchmarks and timelines for each of the goal areas.

According to the goal list, a focus on student achievement would create a comprehensive learning environment that will inspire and empower all students to reach their highest potential academically, creatively and socially.

The Cultural Critic Discusses Sexuality, Race, Gender, Feminism, and Hillary Clinton
Nick Gillespie & Todd Krainin|Mar. 22, 2015 8:30 am

Growing up as “a gender nonconforming entity” during Eisenhower’s America wasn’t easy for cultural critic and best-selling author Camille Paglia. Her adolescence in small-town, upstate New York was marked by rejection, rebellion, and cross-dressing—all in reaction to the stultifying social norms of the 1950s and early ’60s.

So what does Paglia think of contemporary culture, with its openness to a wide variety of ever-proliferating gender, racial, and sexual identities?

Not much.

“I do not feel that gender is sufficient to explain all of human life,” Paglia tells Reason TV’s Nick Gillespie. “This gender myopia, this gender monomania, has become a disease. It’s become a substitute for religion. It is impossible that the feminist agenda can ever be the total explanation of human life.”

Whether the subject is feminism or the fate of Western civilization, Paglia is no Pollyanna. In this wide-ranging discussion, she says higher education is going to hell, the Fourth Estate is an epic FAIL, millennials are myopic, contemporary criticism has croaked, and Hillary Clinton might singlehandedly destroy the universe. Even Madonna, once Paglia’s ideal of sex-positive feminism, seems to have lost her way.

Does the celebrated author of Sexual Personae and Break Blow Burn have any reason to get out of bed in the morning? Does she have any hope for the universe at all? Watch the video to find out.

Reader says I do not understand why this council is so set on altering (damaging, destroying pick your adjective) this town to fit their own wishes.

“Mayor Paul Aronsohn ….he would like to find a way to incentivize the developers to build high end apartments” really? the developers need help? don’t build then.

I do not understand why this council is so set on altering (damaging, destroying pick your adjective) this town to fit their own wishes. The Mayor will NOT be re-elected to this office or any higher office if he keeps pushing through his own agenda while disregarding the majority of residents. He doesn’t even want to poll citizens as other towns have done recently…most likely he knows it will show the proposed changes are not wanted.

Update Ridgewood within the character that already exists and leave Hackensack in Hackensack.

Good lord, this will be huge and horrible. But someone stands to make a ton of bucks on this deal. Certainly not the taxpayers

60 foot tall buildings will become the new norm throughout the CBD if this goes through.

“the devil is in the details” – – that’s the problem with this amendment. it does not say what will or won’t be built. Once the density is changed, the developers can build what they want. There are no controls in place.

we don’t need these monstronsities in town. There are for rent signs on the existing apartment buildings. I don’t see any rush for people to move from their houses to the apartments.

Frankly, I think there is more than enough “density” as it is.

Should Stars Apologize for ‘Hands Up’ Ferguson Lie?

By Christian Toto | March 21, 2015 | 10:41 PM EDT

Many Hollywood stars rallied to decry the lack of an indictment in the death of Ferguson resident Michael Brown late last year. Some took their outrage a step further. Nelly. The cast of Selma. Pharrell. Beyonce. Jay Z. They all protested Brown’s death after an altercation with police officer Darren Wilson by striking the now famous “hands up” pose. Brown allegedly had his hands up when Wilson fatally shot him, or so the media repeatedly told viewers based on unconfirmed accounts. News anchors and star athletes also played upon the meme. They all were dragged into a lie, or as The Washington Post describes it, a “four Pinocchios” level lie.

CNN Confronts Stephen A. Smith for Wanting Black Americans to Vote GOP – And He Doesn’t Back Down
By Jennifer Van Laar

In a speech earlier this week, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith urged black Americans to vote Republican at least once. Smith also said that by blindly voting Democrat blacks label themselves “disenfranchised.”

Smith was interviewed by CNN’s Michael Smerconish to offer further explanation of his comments:

“We’ve bought it hook, line, and sinker … The vast majority of black Americans look at the Republican party as the enemy. We look at the Democrat party as our support base.

Because of it, they have a license to take us for granted. The Republican party has a license to summarily dismiss us because they believe they’ll never get our vote anyway, and then we end up finding ourselves devoid of any kind of representation whatsoever because nobody is really competing to garner our vote and our support.

I wanted folks in my community to stand up and recognize that if you go to a house or you go buy a car or whatever the case may be, you don’t just see something you want and say, ‘I want that. Tell me what the price is and I’ll pay for it.’ Somebody has to flatter you in order to garner your dollars and your support.

I think the same should apply to politicians who want to represent us.”

Smerconish agreed that most Republicans “never even make the ask” for the black vote, but that Rand Paul seems to be doing just that. Smith had some advice for Rand Paul:

“He can highlight some of the inconsistencies and the discrepancies the opposing party might be throwing in our direction, things that we may not know.”

“If you’re running for the presidency, you have to surround yourself with a bunch of folks that look like us.”

Smith contends the Hispanic community has already figured this out and this is why immigration reform is such a hot topic. He believes the black community should be following this lead, and pressing both parties more on issues important to their community.

After Smerconish expressed his hesitation to embrace identity politics, and a fear this would lead to “Balkanization,” Smith replied:

“I am a black man, from a black community, and I’ve watched us suffer religiously, whether it’s with unemployment … whether it’s incarceration, whatever the case may be.”

“I think that the interest of the country is paramount and should usurp all other interests. but if you’re talking to me about my community, I’m going to speak on what’s affecting us and how we can alleviate those concerns.”

Smith ended by saying he isn’t advocating for one party over the other, but rather advocating for blacks to not be so transparent in their support for one party over the other.

New Jersey Ranks #1 in Highest Property Taxes in the USA

The 10 worst states for property taxes

Chloe Della Costa, Cheat Sheet 10:32 a.m. EDT March 21, 2015

U.S. property taxes can vary dramatically by county as well as by state. Since property valuation is complex and highly changeable with the market, value is not necessarily equal to cost or price. Depending on state law, property assessments are done anywhere from once per year to every five years. Then the value assessment of a home is multiplied by the local tax rate, or millage rate, to find the property tax amount owed by the homeowner. In states or counties where property taxes are generally higher, the burden can be great enough to persuade homeowners to consider selling so they can pick up and move elsewhere.

The Tax Foundation compiled Census data from 2004 to 2009 on property taxes on owner-occupied housing, ranked by state. States were ranked three ways: median property taxes paid on homes, taxes as percentage of median home value, and taxes as percentage of income. For simplicity’s sake, this list will focus on percentage of home value.

This methodology allows for a comparison that shows, all things being equal, which states would generally have the highest property taxes for a home.

ISIS in New Jersey: How big a threat?

Is there an ISIS wannabe living near you?

On some level, the answer is immaterial to the Islamic State and other terror groups like them, terrorism experts say.

Fear is the coin of their realm. So regardless of the reality, the mere perception that there are many other Americans like former Neptune resident Tairod Nathan Webster Pugh lurking in the shadows helps further their cause.

“You know that expression, ‘There’s no such thing as bad publicity,’ ” said Robert J. Louden, director of the homeland security program at Georgian Court University, Lakewood. “Because even bad publicity brings your name to someone’s attention.” (Mullen/Asbury Park Press)

Center for Self-Governance will host training sessions on March 24th and 25th
March 23,2015

LEARN HOW TO CHANGE GOVERNMENT

Time grows short for activity to be involved and join with others to take back our government.

If you are you frustrated by the incredibly high tax rate in NJ, movement of relatives out of the state simply to be able to afford a decent life, hyper regulations on every movement and initiative you take, the lack of educational competency of high school graduates??  Well, what are YOU going to do about it?

The training by the Center for Self-Governance will do for you personally and how people in New Jersey are putting the training into action.   So far there are over 160 individuals trained in these methods and we will all band together to make a difference.  Be part of that brigade – the time is now!

Training will be offered at the American Legion on March 24 (part 1) and 25 (part 2) during the hours of 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm.

To sign up for the classes, email directly to [email protected]  and advise you are registering for the class.  Michele will correspond with you directly to register you for the course and how to pay the fee of $50.  Remember it costs $160 to bring the class to you with the travel arrangements, printing, instructors, etc. so it is a real bargain, supported by donations from others who believe in you.

If you cannot sign up at this time but wish to support the efforts, considering making a donation to this class for someone else who is financially strapped during these difficult times.   Even if you cannot sponsor one entire registration, a half-registration of $25 will definitely help get someone else there. If you are financially constrained, please email Michele and let her know of your interest and how a sponsor can help you.

There is still time!!!   If you signed up as ‘interested’ in the class prior but have not yet OFFICIALLY signed up, please email directly [email protected] and let her know you will join in.

Charges against U.S. Senator Menendez possible this week: WSJ

Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Federal investigators could file criminal corruption charges as early as this week against U.S. Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

Menendez, who is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, would be charged in New Jersey, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the investigation.

Allegations against Menendez involve using his office to promote the business interests of a Democratic Party donor and friend in exchange for gifts. Menendez has denied wrongdoing.
