CDC: Working to identify anyone who had contact with sick patient during infectious period

The CDC said that the patient had come from Liberia, and did not show any symptoms when he arrived in the United States on Sept. 20. The organization said it is closely monitoring the situation.
“It is certainly possible that someone who had contact with this individual…could develop Ebola in the coming weeks,” said Tom Frieden, the CDC’s director. “But there is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here.”
Frieden said public health officials will be working to identify all of those who may have had contact with the patient while he could have been infectious. Once identified, these individuals will be monitored for 21 days to see if they develop symptoms, Frieden said.
Why bother to visit that dump?
Just pick up a copy of national geographic.
No ebola, no malaria. Problem solved.
If you’ve been following the story, the man was from west Africa and flew to the US. If other people were infected by him during his time in the country, then we most certainly are a big f$%&UHg way from “problem solved”.
The man went to the ER with symptoms. He had recently carried a dead woman who had died from Ebola. He knew why he was there.
First time visitor to the US and he knew enough to go to the ER for healthcare but not enough to disclose his full background?
If he gets better he should be deported.
Even with modern medicine, the cure-rate for Ebola is about 50%, and that’s using a scenario where those with the virus seek fast medical attention. It’s also based upon a relatively small number of people with the virus. While I agree with your assesment of this particular man, we have a situation far more serious than the immigration status of this man.
My point was not about the Ebola crisis in general or about immigration status. It was about patient responsibility and the behavior of this man. The article was mostly about him.
If he were a US citizen then there should be a way to deal with him in the legal system. People who knew that they were affected with AIDS but continued with unprotected sex were charged with a crime. They knew that they were putting others at risk.
The disease must be contained. The CDC needs to work with other countries to stop this global crisis.
