Ridgewood NJ, despite all the hullabaloo about parking Tuesday 17 10:15 am , the central business district remained a ghost town . The Cottage place lot  teachers ,administrators and store office workers parking has plenty of spaces.

  1. I agree that the parking “shortage” is being blown out of proportion, but posting pictures of 10:15 on a Tuesday morning is not going to carry a lot of weight. Of course the town’s empty. Breakfast is over, lunch hasn’t started, and it’s Tuesday. Post pictures on a Friday during lunch or dinner. Basically any time after 11:30 AM.

  2. 8:36am – that’s what I was thinking.. You tend to lose credibility when your bias is blatant.

  3. The point is you don’t need an $11 million dollar garage in Ridgewood.

  4. Better still. Post pictures on.a Fri/Sat evening, which is the peak time. You still get a few empty spaces. Not many, but enough to confirm that a garage is unnecessary.

  5. Bill H, then prove it without “strawman” arguments like pictures of plenty of parking at 3:30 AM.

  6. We can debate the need for a 5 story garage forever and there will still be individuals on all sides that will never change their mind. The question of whether we, as a Village, WANT a 5 story garage was answered with a resounding NO last Tuesday. The current Council majority should table the special election until November and give the new Council the chance to work out a compromise on a smaller structure.

  7. Sadly the people of Ridgewood including the employees are lazy. They don’t want to have to walk 2 blocks.

  8. Time for a complete review of this massive mistake. Imagine the need for rental car agencies for revenue at the oversized garage..this happens at most municipal garages built on best case models, question is what do we want Ridgewood to become in 5 to seven years..say no to Transit village and townhouse explosion now.TOO BIG IS TOO MUCH RISK.

  9. It was 10:15 a.m. And, just ask any Ridgewood cop.

  10. Police know a crime scene magnet better than anyone.Parking Garage rental security personnel are by definition ,salary level and legal limitations useless .Used as lawsuit due diligence defense.

  11. 9:51am is 100% correct people are just too damn lazy.

  12. I parked in town during sidewalk sales with ZERO issue. Lunchtime Saturday. Sidewalk sales lunchtime Friday. Zero problem.

  13. Only congestion at the Saturday fair at peak time was at the Greeks sidewalk bottleneck ,place was packed ..even out of towners partaking ..
Without the planned MetLife stadium sized uneeded Hudson Street 11 Mil blockbuster. People parked and walked ..savings net 11 Million ..meters were also fat and jingling.

  14. There is always parking. ALWAYS. Even during Christmas shopping days. and yes even on saturday night. We need to get that app that someone talked about, where your phone will tell you exactly where available spots are in town. Then you can drive right to an open spot without circling the block and for a miracle of miracles you can walk a block or two before feeding your face.

  15. The garage is for Friday and Saturday night diners. The garage will be half full other times.

When the meters do not produce enough income the residents will pay for the garage.

  16. To 9:51, 11:26 – you are correct, but what the “lazy people” don’t understand is that the parking garage will cause them to walk WELL OVER two blocks (even if you don’t count the “walking around in the garage” distance) unless you are going to a handful of restaurants, so most people will not use the garage anyway.

  17. 3.48
Awesome idea . With a fraction of 11mill develop the app and solve the problem for years by saving a ton and saving the village.

  18. We could get by without a garage if all the streets and lots in the CBD were designated as 3hr max. The issue then would be commuter parking. Since most of the commuters are residents and the residents have spoken out quite vocally against a garage then we should listen to them and not build the garage.. Why spend 11mil to satisfy the needs of a relative handful of well-to-do Wall St commuters ? Perhaps they could use Uber to pick them up and take them to the station. Parking problem solved !!

  19. Off with their heads what were those garage people thinking you dont build churches for Easter Sunday Dudes

  20. 6.36 no commuters are at work to pay High Taxes to Fat cats here

  21. Commuters pay 750 large cash loose if not used prepaid

  22. 11 is base plus overruns and graft upsized work orders when they dig up pocahontas

  23. on thursday friday and saturday nights no parking. what about having parking at village hall, the town own’s a shuttle van , we can have that run back and forth.

  24. 7.32 or at least as a Spring Summer fall option on excess needs without Garagezilla

  25. I wish people would take photos of parking spaces all over town on different days of the week, ordinary and holiday, and at different times to show in aggregate that parking IS AVAILABLE. A large number of photos documented at various times and days of the week would tell the story. Walking a couple of blocks is good for your health! And unless you’re going to a Hudson St. or S. Broad Street venue, you’ll walk a couple of blocks (or much more) from the garage anyway. Please VOTE NO on June 21 and get an absentee ballot if you can’t.

    1. thats a great idea

  26. 6:30. The app exists. Someone explained it at a meeting last falll

  27. 7:32. You have proposed a very good idea. While it has been discussed in varying forms over the years it may be worthwhile for the Village to re-visit it.

  28. Time to Shut Down that Monster.Restaurants don’t earn that much respect in terms of taxpayers Financial risks when they have not offered a fig to the costs. They will just move on when our town goes into the crapper.

  29. Agree with the 8:36 poster. It definately depends on the time of day, weather conditions etc. I have driven around the blocks numerous times looking for a parking space. I’ve seen people park in the BOE parking lot and some of the banks just to get a space

  30. People you don’t responsibly spend 11 million plus to solve a perceived issue of parking limitations during peak use.Let them eat cake, then just walk it off to the car at the spot they found a few more blocks out..and arrived at the eatery with a better appetite than the lazy valet service crowds that will continue to exist in any event for those who choose it and the elders who will be taken care of with the status quo situation in the village.would you spend 11 million plus cost overruns as a business owner..No ,cased closed.tax payers decide this not the business promoters spender crowds .its easy to spend others money ..

  31. are they rely going to put bathrooms in the new garage.

  32. Walk in Showers for the Homeless
