Chamber of Commerce calls for New “Toilet”Tax on Residents
Paul Vaggianos, who doubles as the the owner/operator of Greek to Me Restaurant and Chair of the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce Restaurant Committee, commented at the Village Council Meeting last night that the sewer flow charge increase to businesses proposed by the Village Council in town is unfair. He said that we should all pay our fair share including residential taxpayers.
If the Council falls for this charade that will mean residents who now only pay for the water that they use will also pay a new sewer outflow tax based upon use so Vaggianos stated. This will help the restaurants stay in business Vagianos commented. New flash, Paul: the residents do not need a toilet tax. We pay enough.

The residents already subsidize these merchants. Not a chance of their being able to put sewer meters on to measure the outflow.
Boycott It’s Greek To Me! Let’s see how long he stays in business trying to raise taxes on us. If he wants to charge customers of It’s Greek To Me more money to off-set the costs, let him do it, but to suggest that all residents should have to pay is absurd.
Paul Vaggianos was rambling and ridiculous last night. What was all that ridiculousness about a bridge???
This tax is not needed under any circumstances.
Add a “sewer tax” in small type at the bottom of the menu like the tip added for tables of six or more.
I’m not eating at It’s Greek To Me until he publicly retracts his position. No way I’m helping a guy who wants to raise my taxes.
I like #5’s idea but call it and environmental responsibility fee and you an sell that much easier.
Sorry but I think we already pay for plenty regarding the CBD. A lot of their revenue comes from out of towners anyway. And wow, how to you factor Valley into that- gotta be the most toilets in town by far — or the larger office buildings (such as some Valley owns?)
Wow. There are virtually no likable characters in this story. Government looks for a way to squeeze more money out of business owners, business owners look for ways to squeeze it out of their neighbors.
Add a surcharge to the bill or raise your prices $0.05 per item.
And Its Greek To Me is really not that great a place. Food is average and the service is same. Try the place in Glen Rock. Expensive but good. And they have a bar, I think.
#7 I am not a Valley supporter but I wanted to correct one thing . . . Valley pays taxes for the buildings they own in that they pay taxes on the rental suites within those buildings.
I think our village engineer has his heart set on making this money up when valley dumps 300,000 gallons of water a day either into the sewer system or into the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook.
Now that Paul Vaggianos got away with erecting that illegal concrete planter eyesore outside of his store, he thinks he can get whatever he wants.
Paul Vaggianos is laughing all the way to the bank. Wait till he gets his parking garage on Hudson St his business will be booming while the taxpayers struggle. It pay to back Mayor Paul Aronsohn.
Vaggianos is one of Aronsohn untouchables. He can do and say whatever he wants.
The Chamber of Commerce are a bunch of crybabies. They always blame other people for their failed business plan.
I can’t help pay for someone’s business expenses – where will it end? Cost of cucumbers go up and we will have another tax.
