  1. So, now it’s OK to ask big government for $? Oh wait, that’s what you retards call “starving the beast”.

    Retards.

    1. in case you missed it ,Amtrak is run by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT , nearly 3 million passengers a day reach Penn Station , of with under 850,000 use NJT, and 350,000 plus use LIRR , I no it was brilliant of Corzine to make NJ tax payers to pay for the full boat lol

  2. Well considering NY and NJ send much more to the feds than they get back, getting a grant is a reasonable request. Also the NE corridor is profitable (to the tune of about 200 mil)_but the red state morons starve the NE corridor so their money losing routes get proper funding.

    1. Amtrak is a DC boondoggle , RED states don’t give a crap about Amtrak, Corzine saw fit to make NJ tax payers pay for the whole country , and many in NJ were dumb enough to go along

  3. Amtrak has four stations in NJ. Yup, New Jersey is well served by Amtrak.

  4. James- the lightly travelled passenger routes to nowhere in the south midwest and far west are overwhelmingly in red states. the reps there strut and preen about cutting funding but also make sure those routes dont get cut, which means investment in the ne corridor suffers. and yes, most of it is a dc boondoggle but the ne corridor makes money in spite of dc.

    1. Because Amtrak works for Washington politicians and its a Federal Program let the Federal Government pay for it , not just New Jersey

  5. Yep, that’s the way it should be.

  6. George W Bush saved Amtrak when he should have left it to die. The other option would be to instate a super regional commuter authority, overseen by elected officials from each affected state, that would have direct remit for the total infrastructure from north of Boston to south of Richmond. They’d save money on management, at least. It is laughable how balkanized these agencies are in their current state.

  7. Break off the Northeast corridor and keep Boston to DC operating expenses and revenues dedicated to that stretch. The regionals are a separate issue.
