Closter Attorney Charged With Stealing Funds from Seniors

Closter NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 73-year-old ANTHONY GORGA of Closter, NJ on the charge of misapplication of entrusted property. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.

In May 2025, Bergen County Adult Protective Services contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit regarding an allegation of misappropriation of funds belonging to an elderly couple. The investigation revealed that ANTHONY GORGA, in his position of power of attorney, committed misapplication of entrusted funds, by stealing approximately $200,000 and utilized the funds for his personal use for several years.

As a result of the investigation, ANTHONY GORGA was arrested on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Closter, NJ and charged with second-degree misapplication of entrusted property, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-15. GORGA was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks Bergen County Adult Protective Services and the Closter Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
