Ramsey NJ, Frank Pallotta, candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s fifth Congressional district issued the following statement regarding the NJEA’s statement on the Kyle Rittenhouse not guilty verdict.
I stand in support of those calling for the NJEA to retract its statement and to apologize for their terribly short-sighted and premature response to last weeks verdict. I was shocked and appalled by the reckless and totally irresponsible reaction from the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) following Friday’s not guilty verdict in the murder trial of Kyle Rittenhouse.
To see Friday’s statement by NJEA’s officers, President Sean M. Spiller, Vice President Steve Beatty and Secretary-Treasurer Petal Robertson, stating that they were dismayed over the “brokenness of our justice system”, defies all forms of reason and logic. The death of any person, at any time, and for any reason – violent or otherwise – is regretful. However, for NJEA leadership to summarily dismiss the unanimous findings of 12 jurors, deliberating 5 felony five counts over a 2 ½ week period, shows a blatant disregard for our own legal system and an unwarranted lack of trust in 12 good men and women who sacrificed their time and reputation to perform their civic duty.
Part of their own NJEA mission statement is to “promote a quality system of public education” in the State of New Jersey. A system that no doubt paved the way for millions who believed the jury’s findings were correct. That said, is the NJEA so bold and self-righteous that they can assume that any juror, judge, prosecutor, public defender, and any other legal professional who goes against their own polarized and warped position is wrong simply because they don’t agree with them?
Being a non-profit organization, the NJEA should exercise caution when sharing political viewpoints through the NJEA’s platform. You are free to express your opinions as individuals, but as a tax-exempt organization, there are rules that are to be followed, and this statement by the leadership is at best questionable.
We should remember to pray for the souls of all those who were lost, hurt, or negatively affected in connection with the terrible events that’s transpired in Kenosha, WI. But we should also be thankful that we live in a country where our legal system works to protect the rights of all citizens regardless of race, creed, ethnic or social background and where everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Unless of course the NJEA disagrees with those findings.
Hey elitist lefty NJEA it was not “a brokenness of our justice system”.
More than Kyle Rittenhouse the person, it was the right to self defense from attackers that was on trial.
Thank God the jury closely studied the trial, then deliberated and weighed the evidence on a “balanced scale of justice” as we do in America and came to the fair and correct verdict of not guilty.
Or would the idiotic NJEA rather that a person not have the right to defend himself when being attacked?
NJEA owes a public apology to Kyle Rittenhouse.
