Ridgewood NJ, Starbucks and Amazon have opened up a pick-up cafe in midtown Manhattan that uses Amazon’s cashierless technology. The cafes are designed to attract busy consumers who want to make quick purchases. Two more locations are set to open over the next year. The cafe stocks a variety of food options and items commonly found in convenience store checkout lines in addition to the Starbucks menu. It is open till 10 pm on weekdays and 9 pm on weekends.

In September Amazon announced it is bringing its automated checkout technology to a pair of Whole Foods stores, marking the latest test of the grab-and-go system in a full-size supermarket.

  2. Dunkin’ Donuts always takes 10 minutes to put together a coffee and bag my Boston Cream.

The store could be empty but it’s going to take 10 minutes.

  3. Who needs jobs……….??????????

  4. Seems to be a situation of disparate impact discrimination against the elderly who don’t normally use these tech cashless apps. Kind of unfair that a large segment of society is blocked from patronage, but maybe like the other fellow here said, they don’t care, but still.

  5. Cashierless = Cashless = Now the Gov’t knows EVERY PENNY you spend.

  6. The cashless option is yes, an option. No-one is being discriminated against. If you pay for things the old-fashioned way, you still can. Now call off the cancel-culture idea.

  7. I would not like it either, but It is not age discrimination. They are not “blocked” from going in and buying whatever they want. I would think they would lose a bit of business at those locations, but I think Amazon will survive.

  9. this is a direct result of a mandatory $15 per hour minimum wage for brainless workers
thats why many places have self serve kiosks to order or self checkout at a store
thanks Democrats for eliminating jobs for the ones who need them!
