Daughter of Mystery Writer Mary Higgins Clark and Bestselling author as well Carol Higgins Clark dies at age 66

Twp. of Washington NJ, Carol Higgins Clark, who as a young woman retyped manuscripts by her mother, famed mystery writer Mary Higgins Clark, before going on to become a best-selling suspense novelist herself, died Monday in Los Angeles. She was 66.

Her family said in a statement that the cause was appendix cancer.

Carol Higgins Clark wrote more than a dozen novels , beginning with “Decked” in 1992, and several others with Christmas themes in collaboration with her mother, who died in 2020. Carol Higgins Clark started out aspiring to be an actress, and she eventually accumulated a handful of credits in movies, several of them based on her mother’s books. But in 1975, while she was home for the summer from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, another career possibility began to take shape when she bailed her mother, who was just beginning her suspense-writing career, out of a jam. Retyping and entire manuscript for her.

Clark went to the all-girls private school Immaculate Heart Academy in Bergen County before continuing her education at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.Her career spanned decades which included an 18-novel series starring Private Investigator Regan Reilly as the central character. Clark even teamed up with her mother for four novels.

There will be a wake on Monday at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, according to her obituary. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens.
