Ridgewood NJ, frequent readers of the blog know that for years the blog has pointed out congestion and access to the central business district is a far bigger issue than parking . Over the years the Village seems have done almost everything possible to make congestion worse ie… suicide bike lanes , traffic easing and street level valet parking and so on.

Once again Village residents have fallen prey to very poor municipal planning . One of the constant issues creating congestion and public safety obstacles are delivery trucks off loading their cargo in the fifteen minute parking zones . According to several merchants the spaces can be taken out of service for several hours , sometimes even half a day .
This clearly defeats the purpose of the short term convenience parking and even if the merchant paid 15 minute parking goes away the delivery trucks often block street corners creating obstructions and tie up the 15 minute meter parking.
Police too busy ticketing the HS kids cars parked on Beverly during the school break.
So people should stop parking illegally, and then police won’t have to waste time dealing with them.
It’s very easy to believe that navigating the obstacle of a delivery truck making deliveries downtown, would have the typical Ridgewood resident in a real mental pretzel…“Keep driving until I find an open space? No. Drive to the parking garage? No. Or just sit here in the middle of the road bewildered and hold up traffic? Yes, option three!!!”.
Delivery trucks are not the only obstacle. How about ever bigger landscaping trucks and trailers on pretty narrow streets?
Wait until someone dies when an ambulance gets blocked on hospital access road (seen that happen – hopefully no one died).
It’s not only delivery trucks, It’s the app food deliver drivers and the cheap ass lazy people running into the restaurants to pick up their food too.
