Though Ridgewood’s governing body has yet to see and review all detailed options for a proposed ADA accessible ramp at Graydon Pool, council members expect to formally accept a $55,000 Bergen County grant next week to partially fund the project, estimated to cost a total of $95,000.

The council hoped to receive ramp design plans from the village engineering department for this week’s work session; however, timing and staff illnesses delayed the work, said Village Engineer Chris Rutishauser. He expects the plans will be prepared within two weeks.

The village professional staff met with an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance expert at Graydon Pool in September to evaluate the site. Using the analysis and advice from Jennifer Perry, a specialist from the United Spinal Association, the engineering department produced three preliminary ramp designs.

Last month, the council initially selected what was known as “Option 3” and asked Rutishauser to create renderings of the ramp. Officials have since revisited all the options and asked for additional detail on another proposal.

“After looking at it again, we understood that ‘Option 1’ would have less concrete, shorter [in length], less conspicuous and be in a better position alongside the pool,” Mayor Paul Aronsohn said.

  1. If this decision making process is a preview on how things are going to be done in the future we are in big trouble.

  2. So much for “zero based budgeting” all Aronsohn has done so far is spend, spend, spend. And here goes another $40k for a ramp to nowhere.

  3. #2 if you knew anything about the Americans with Disabilities Act you would know that the Village must, under penalty of law if we don’t comply, provide disabled persons access to Graydon Pool or face fines that will make the $40,000.00 spent for the ramp look like chump change!

Mayor Aronsohn is doing what is required by law and he is spending as little as possible to do it. Apparently you have a problem with Mayor Aronsohn and that is ok but at least know what your talking about before you make a fool of yourself.

  4. #3 the mobi chair used in Allendale exceeds ADA standards save the BS people know they are being conned …just another “elevator to no where” like the Train station

  5. #4 The mobi chair will not meet ADA standards in 2014 because it is portable and can break down making it unusable. Allendale will have to replace it with something permenant or be in non compliance. Time for you to read the law and educate yourself.

  6. The actual details of the ADA law can be accessed at the government website

    http://www.access-board.gov/recreation/guides/pools.htm

    Requirements:

Facilities not in compliance could face federal criminal prosecution and/or lawsuits.

Larger commercial pools, 300 linear feet of wall perimeter, will be required to offer two different means of entry that are wheelchair accessible. One entry can be an automated pool lift or a sloped entry. The second entry should not be the same as the first which could be portable pool access stairs, or a transfer wall that helps people lift themselves over the side of the pool.

There is no mention of the Mobi chair for large pools such as graydon. The only con man is you hiding behind your computer making false claims and being an ass.

  7. Hmmm no comment Monkeys Uncle? Must be you have your panties in a bunch and your trying to figure out how how to get out of them so your too busy to reply. Like I said before at least know what your talking about before you make a fool of yourself.
