“Dear Township of Washington Community and Westwood Regional School District,
I hope your summer is going well. My name is Doug Cusato, and I am happy to announce that I am running for the Westwood Regional Board of Education.
I’ve been a resident of the Township of Washington (WT) since 2013, when my wife and I made the decision to purchase our first home on Calvin Street as the neighborhood maintained picturesque streets, a good school system and was well located to allow my wife to commute into NYC for her career as a NICU Nurse at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. Since moving into town, we’ve been blessed with our greatest life achievement – a family with 4 beautiful children, all within 5 years! My son Dean, who is a rising 4th grader at Jessie F. George Elementary School (JFG), my oldest daughter Stella, who is a rising 3rd grader at JFG, my middle daughter Lillian, who is a rising 2nd grader at JFG and my youngest daughter Georgina, who will start preschool at the high school this fall. As you might imagine, this blessing keeps us on our feet and provides us with the opportunity to naturally gain exposure to all the district has to offer. Additionally, we are members of the Washington Lake Association, Our Lady of Good Council parish and my wife and I coach various recreational sports within WT and Westwood including Soccer, Softball, Basketball and Football.
I was born and raised in Southern NJ (Gloucester Township), just outside of Philadelphia. I attended a K-8 private catholic school called Our Lady of Grace and subsequently went on to graduate from Paul VI Catholic high school, where I met my wife and I participated in several sports including football and powerlifting. Following my high school graduation, I attended Camden County College and received my associates degree. I then completed my bachelor’s degree in organic chemistry at Rutgers University. I graduated in 2006 and immediately started my career in the drug delivery / medical device industry.
Across my 16 years within industry, I’ve gained an expertise in drug delivery devices (for example syringes, vials, wearables, and pen injectors) and specimen collection devices (for example tubes used to draw and sample blood for diagnostic testing). During my career, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the brightest minds in the world at industry leading companies and as a result maintain numerous noteworthy accomplishments including:
• led or supported the development of 12 innovative products that improve the lives of more than 3 billion people each year and generate nearly 1 billion dollars in annual revenue.
• Published more than 20 pieces of industry literature including peer reviewed manuscripts, patents, expert editorials and speak regularly at scientific forums across the globe
• Review panelist for leading scientific journal publications
• Received numerous innovation awards from leading medical device companies linked with new product innovation and leading dynamic teams across matrixed environments
• Lived and worked abroad in Belgium for 3 years
• Advisory Board Member for the University of California, Riverside Campus, Design Thinking Program
• Manage large global teams and a yearly budget of more than 10 million dollars
• Co-founded a sports nutrition company
On a more personal level, I’ve been active in various volunteer activities for local schools and universities since 2012 including being a mentor for Bergen County Academies Senior Internship Program and yearly speaking positions at Steven’s Institute of Technology for engineering students. These have truly been the most rewarding opportunities that my career has provided me with over the last 16 years. No compensation package, award, or recognition remotely compares to the ability to impact students in such a unique way.
As mentioned above, I’m a member of the Washington Lake Association. During my free time, you can commonly find me either fishing, paddleboarding or enjoying other water bug activities with my family. Additionally, as part of my upbringing, resistance training and powerlifting have always provided me with a way of staying healthy and feeling good both mentally and physically. Staying strong and healthy and enjoying outdoor activities have been values I’ve carried with me for many years. I look forward to sharing these passions with my children in the future.
I will be sharing more information about myself and my campaign focus over the coming weeks. Additionally, I will be scheduling a few “meet and greet” sessions around the community and I’m looking forward to some great discussions and meeting / reconnecting with our awesome community members.
Doug”

  4. Is it true you dress up as snowman at a board of Ed meeting? Why do foolish thing like this to seek attention?

I hear you run against real-life educator? Doesn’t he know much more than you about life in education? Why would I not vote for other candidate who simply seems far more qualified to hold this position

  5. Township can do better.

Vote Joe McCallister. He is an upstanding citizen who has kept his composure over the last several years.

  6. Was that pic taken at Habernickel…?

  7. No thank you! You can do better Township. We have seen way too many antics from Cusato over the last few years. If you haven’t been paying attention, some of his distorted statements on education and politics make it clear he has no business being elected to this position.
