Mahwah NJ,  William “Duke” Golz, a 43 year old life long Mahwah resident, has declared his candidacy for the Mahwah Township Council in this November’s election. He joins incumbents George Ervin, Rob Ferguson, Jon Wong, Janet Ariemma, and newcomer Ward Donigian- a member of the Recreation Committee and Planning Board, in a hotly contested race for four seats up on the township’s nonpartisan governing body.

Happily married with two children, Duke’s family came to Mahwah in the 1960s. He is a third generation Mahwah resident, and a son of the American Revolution. Interestingly, his family help found Newark, the Oranges, and parts of Hackensack in the early 1700s. Equipped with degrees in History and Sociology, he has Masters of Healthcare Administration.

Under the ballot slogan “Your Voice, Mahwah’s Future,” Duke wants to work with the council and administration to preserve and protect Mahwah’s history way of life. Golz said, “As a lifelong Mahwah resident, I care deeply about the look and feel of our community.  Many residents expressed concern to me about the direction of our town as well as a disconnect between the town council and those who live in town.  I intend to be a voice for those who want to keep Mahwah green, take a common sense approach to new developments and construction, and bring back civil & polite discourse to our town council.  I understand there is a balance between township civic obligations and the concerns of township residents. I will strive to reach an equilibrium between those obligations and the concerns of residents for the benefit of everyone in Mahwah.”
Golz is a Program Engagement and Content Strategist for GoMo Health, and his work reaches tens of thousands of people to keep them physically and emotionally healthy. He was elected as a Republican County Committeeman unopposed this past June, and is heavily involved in the greater Mahwah community. He is a member of the Ramapo Reformed Church in Mahwah, and a graduate of Mahwah High School where he played on the varsity football team. His campaign has the support of the group “Mahwah Children First” and many of the township’s Republican County Committee members, including Michael Schnoll (R-Cragmere) who is advising both Duke’s campaign as well as Chris Hughes’ for the Mahwah Board of Education.

Schnoll confirmed that Golz and Hughes will be running a joint effort in support of one another.
