Ridgewood NJ, Employees of the Village of Ridgewood’s Streets Division transferred several dump truck loads of snow from the “North Graydon” parking lot to the Schedler Park property on Monday morning, 04/17.
The snow, removed from streets and parking lots in Ridgewood’s Central Business District and trucked to the “North Graydon” parking lot several weeks ago, is presumed to contain rock salt and other chemicals likely to be found on the surface of streets and parking lots.
Trash (e.g., plastic bottles and newspapers) was visible to several people walking along West Saddle River Road near adjacent to the Schedler property.
In an e-mail response to a resident who inquired as to why the snow was transported from Graydon to Schedler, Village Manager Heather A. Mailander wrote: “The Village had to move the snow from the Graydon Pool parking lot to another location, due to the fact that the paving contractors, who have begun their work, need a place to stage their operations and are now doing so in the Graydon Pool parking lot.”
What a slap in the face to those who are involved in the preservation of Schedler Park.
This has Rutishauser written all over it.
We paid for that land. We need to use it. Sorry to the nieghbors who think it is their personal property. it is not. It is $7m of Village land.
Think of it as water for the eagles that nest there.
That contaminated snow can’t be good
Salt and garbage
I live far from that neighborhood yet I am affronted by this reckless dumping of snow mixed with garbage and road salt. You don’t have to be a neighbor to be outraged. Rutishauser? You betcha.
Last Friday, I saw the fire department hosing down the pile of snow at Graydon.
Waste of water and overtime.
Maybe they can find a better place for it next winter. The Graydon lot is central and available at that time but mountains of disgusting black ice and snow become an eyesore for months. It may be “traditional” to do this, but it’s gross, and it runs into the brook–so what if DEP granted a permit? It shouldn’t have. Dumping it at Schedler is a statement, too.
When I saw the photographer, He was aiming at the trees. I had hoped he had really discovered a rare bird there.
Let me get this right it’s NOT OK to put the snow in an area that is a good distance from leeching into the ground water, but it’s OK to keep it in Graydon’s parking lot that drains into the HHK brook?
.
Can’t use the environment as the basis for your complaint.
Love the green acres sign…only in Ridgewood..the city of meaningless but snarky signage. It is a control thing folks..good signs make good neighbors..more Ridgewood police ahead blue signs continue to be added and litter the main streets..why is this. . .? . some as far away as Linwood and Paramus road,,Mapquest manages
When folks need a little help with where they need to go.llike right at City hall…largest facility in town..
Oh, this is rich. Nearby Ridgewood residents have traditionally used this property substantially solely to walk and relieve their dogs. No other purpose ever occurred to them. Now that the town owns it and has come up with a new use, we need to listen to these same residents complain? What a joke. If a bald eagle somehow manages to submit a complaint in its own name, we should sit up and take notice. Otherwise, it’s back to sleep!
To be fair, next winter’s black snow can be moved to the Health Barn property.
finally, a good use for Schedler Park.
Agree! Alternate with Health Barn Park
to 113pm ,rich who, dump it in the brook.
Yea, maybe we can find a better place for it next winter…LIKE YOUR FRONT LAWN. Now snow is an “eye sore” and then the FD starts to hose it down and someone’s gotta bitch about that for wasting water. The water is FROM the brook. The same place it should have been dumped in in the first place. Now that Trump has bitch slapped the EPA around we’ll get to do that next year. And if you think the HHB is so prestine your crazy. It’s been a dumping ground for YEARS.
the streets manager should rent a snow melter. wake up
that sounds good just like new your city.
