Elective cosmetic surgery can benefit patients in many ways, including improving their quality of life and boosting their self-esteem. Patients in New Jersey have been hit by multiple elective surgery delays over the past two years. Collectively, across the U.S an estimated 28,404,603 elective surgeries were put on hold. Now that cosmetic elective surgery is allowed, patients are opting for these on-trend cosmetic procedures where possible.

Male breast reduction surgery

40% of breast reduction surgeries are carried out on males. This surgery involves tissue and fat being removed. A condition known as gynecomastia, where excess breast gland tissue grows, is often the reason why men opt for this type of surgery. Gynecomastia can be caused by obesity. Obesity rates among adults in New Jersey are currently 27.7%, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In 2015, this figure was just 25.8%, so if men in the state continue to put on weight, more of them are expected to undergo breast reduction surgery.

Body enhancing

Surgery that enhances the way a body part looks or works have always been popular types of elective surgery. PR Newswire reports that the average surgeon performed 320 cosmetic procedures in 2021. The most popular cosmetic procedure is nose reshaping. Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice and her daughter have both openly talked about having their noses done. Another popular type of cosmetic surgery that women are electing to have is vaginoplasty. This involves the vaginal muscles being tightened, along with the vaginal canal and perineal tissues. Many women have this surgery due to postpartum changes, weight changes, or menopause.

Skin tag & mole removal

In June, the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) warned that over-the-counter treatment for the removal of moles, skin tags, and seborrheic keratoses should not be used as they are not approved. Experts warn that these products could do more harm than good. As such, there is an expected increase in the number of people having elective surgery to remove these skin growths safely. These procedures are safe and are usually done as an outpatient. Moles tend to be cut or shaved off while skin tags are snipped or frozen off. This can be done by a registered New Jersey-based dermatologist.

Elective surgery is popular across the nation and in New Jersey. There are a whole range of surgeries you could choose to have for cosmetic purposes, but these are some of the most popular right now.
