Elmwood Park Gunman Picked Up in Garfield Shooting

Garfield NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of JOSHUA CASIANO (DOB: 03/17/1994; single; traffic safety foreman) of Elmwood Park, NJ, on charges related to a June 18, 2023, shooting in Garfield, NJ.  The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Garfield Police Department under the direction of Chief Richard Uram.

On Sunday, June 18, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers from the Garfield Police Department responded to the area of Jewell Street and Outwater Lane on a report of shots fired.  First responders discovered a 26-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds.  He was transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition.  An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Garfield Police Department revealed that JOSHUA CASIANO shot the victim and fled the scene.

On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office located and arrested JOSHUA CASIANO.  During the arrest, a suspected controlled dangerous substance was recovered from his person.

JOSHUA CASIANO was charged with first-degree attempted murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/2C:11-3; second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a; second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b; third-degree endangering an injured victim, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2; and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5b(3).

JOSHUA CASIANO was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.  Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Garfield Police Department, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Port Authority Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau for their assistance with the investigation.
