Ridgewood NJ, as we find ourselves deep into the heart of summer, North Jersey is breaking records with one of its hottest seasons yet. The mercury continues to rise relentlessly, promising no relief from the scorching temperatures any time soon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Northeast New Jersey is under a heat advisory until Wednesday evening, 8 p.m. This advisory kicks in when the combination of heat and humidity makes it feel like a blistering 95 to 99 degrees Fahrenheit for two or more consecutive days, or reaches 100 to 104 degrees for any duration.
The metropolitan New York area is also feeling the heat, as confirmed by the NWS. Peak temperatures are forecasted between noon and 6 p.m. on both Tuesday and Wednesday, making these the hottest hours of the day. For residents enduring another sweltering week, the NWS warns that vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, are particularly susceptible to heat-related illnesses. They strongly advise staying indoors in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
In Bergen County, the heat index could soar up to 102 degrees on Tuesday, with Paramus and neighboring towns expecting highs around 93 degrees. Meanwhile, Bergenfield has already matched a record set back in 2014 with a scorching 94 degrees.
The North Jersey Weather Observers reported other notable highs on Monday, including 95 degrees in Paterson, 94 degrees in Sussex and Vernon, 93 degrees in North Haledon, and 91 degrees in Ramsey.
Adding to the mix of intense heat, humid conditions are combining with the effects of Hurricane Beryl down in Texas, potentially bringing heavy rains and thunderstorms to New Jersey on Tuesday and Wednesday. The NWS forecasts scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the week, with increasing chances of rainfall later in the week as well.
For Bergen County and surrounding areas, the NWS anticipates a daily possibility of rain, ensuring that weather remains a topic of conversation and concern as we navigate through this exceptionally hot summer.
As we continue to cope with this heatwave, it’s crucial to stay informed, stay cool, and take care of ourselves and each other. Keep hydrated, seek shade, and stay updated with the latest weather advisories to stay safe in these challenging conditions. Here’s hoping for cooler days ahead!
