A centenarian is a person who has reached the age of 100 years or older. The term comes from the Latin word “centum,” which means one hundred. Centenarians are a rare demographic, often celebrated for their longevity and are of interest in studies related to aging and longevity.

As for how many centenarians there are in New Jersey, it’s difficult to pinpoint an exact number at any given moment, as it can vary year by year. However, according to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau and studies related to aging populations, there are 2,375 centenarians living in New Jersey. The number has been growing over time due to advances in healthcare, better living conditions, and an overall increase in life expectancy.
