Ridgewood’s Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch has a new director — the village’s former police chief, Lou Mader.

Mader’s appointment was announced by Ridgewood officials on Thursday.

Mader will replace Jack Tancos, who tendered his resignation in late October.

Tancos remains at Bergen Central Dispatch, working as a public safety dispatcher.

Mader, who holds a degree in public administration from William Paterson University, was most recently director of public safety for Hunter College, a position he held for nearly 14 years.

Prior to that, Mader spent eight years running Ridgewood’s police force. He begins his new job Jan. 20.

  1. Does he collect a pension while doing this? Must be great to have the inside track.

  2. His NJ State Police & Fireman’s pension is $89,421. How much will we be paying him and will he have access to the red light and siren equipped Village vehicle that was assigned to Jack Tancos?

  3. He earned the pension and deserves to collect every penny of it.

  4. Lou will who a good job.

  5. Will do a good job/iPad autocorrect sux

  6. Why don’t you ask the Breath of Fresh Air Manager who hire him. “Must be great to have the inside” who would that be #1?

  7. Ridgewood Recycles old employes a former Captain of Police working in Recycling and now former Chief of Police running Central Dispatch. I wonder if any of these two are in the running foe Public Safety Director. Here a thought why don’t we bring back DOM to be the Court Administrator?

  8. # 3& 4 must be looking for a job.

  9. Well, let’s face it… Bergen County patronage is kind of like the banjo player in Deliverance…

  10. Lou is a good man and did a fine job when he was chief……stand up guy…. We should be thankful that he is back and in a few short weeks will have the place whipped into shape in no time…

  11. There are many recent RHS/college grads who might have taken the recycling job. Wasn’t his pension enough?

  12. Thanks Lou for that update.

  13. Ridgewood recycles Mayors also. They become municipal judges

  14. I hear James Tenhove is coming back as head of the Parking Utility.

  15. I heard Gabbert could be coming back as a paid consultant on funding for the parking garage.

  16. Yes and Bob Greenlaw will be coming back a 3rd time in charges of outside actives.

  17. I wonder if there any retired from the Village employees working at NWCD ?

  18. “public servant” pursuits of ruthless monetary self interest, financed off the backs of taxpayers

  19. If it wasn’t for Public Servants what would you do #8 because its above you to get your hands dirty

  20. time will tell.

  21. Lou Mader was a good manager when he was a chief in rwd but Central is a broken bag of bones that is beyond repair the town should go to Bergen county, it would probably be cheaper in the long run.

  22. It seems Central Dispatch is going down the wrong path once again…….Lou Mader has no idea how to run the center from what I was told . Just recently he cut part timers hours in half if not all with 1 day notice. Part timers now have no idea how they are going to pay their bills. A close source told me it was due to budget cuts. The moral at Central Dispatch is at its low once again , Lou Mader does not return employees emails on serious issues its a lot of empty promises. The secretary that Lou hired has no clue what she is doing , she apparently on a 3 month basis messed up almost every employees paycheck every pay week leaving them short a few hundred dollars. Still employees are stuck at their desk with no lunch breaks in a twelve hour shift . Will Central ever be what it was when Greenlaw was there? Someone should look into this ……
