Wyckoff NJ, when Kelly Conlon took her daughter to see the Rockettes at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall, guards wouldn’t let her in. Why? Facial recognition software had ID’d her as a lawyer whose firm is involved in a lawsuit against the venue’s parent company, MSG Entertainment.

Wyckoff resident Kelly A. Conlon, 44, an associate with Davis, Saperstein & Solomon, was one of several adults escorting her daughter’s troop into Radio City the weekend after Thanksgiving when she was stopped by security guards who identified her by name and employer, advising her she could not enter.
It’s a controversial technology. There are concerns over privacy, government overreach, and inaccuracy. The tech is worse at ID-ing women and people of color than white men, and its use in the US has led to wrongful arrests.
But in this case a business is using the tech to ban specific people who’ve done nothing wrong. Conlon is not involved in the case against MSG. In June, MSG banned all lawyers from firms suing it from its venues — even if, like Conlon, they aren’t involved with that particular case.
Conlon’s firm Davis, Saperstein and Salomon has complained to the state liquor authority, which requires all licensees allow the “general public,” and an investigation is pending.
In November, one judge decided that, under state law, MSG could ban lawyers from sporting events, but not concerts or shows. Another called MSG’s policy the “stupidest thing” she’d ever read, per Reuters.
Still, MSG maintains that litigation “creates an inherently adversarial environment,” and that private businesses have the right to limit entry.
Love it…actions have consequences.
What action? Taking your daughter’s girl scout troop to a show?
Did u read the article ?
Did you?
She’s employed by the law firm. She’s neither working on the case, nor suing MSG.
Her only “action”s that merits “consequences” are
1)being employed
2)going to a show
Jimmy Dolan doesn’t fool around. Ask Charles Oakley.
I’m okay with private enterprises making their own decisions on who can and cannot attend their events. However, figure out a way of doing this earlier in the process. Don’t spring it on someone who has travelled in, parked, and brought their family.
The firm was notified in writing.
So they can decide based on race, religion, gender, etc ???
This new technology is already out of control. How awful.
Terrible decision by MSG. A corporation making a lawsuit personal! Dolans an ass!
Doubly so as she isn’t even working on this particular lawsuit; she’s merely employed at a firm that’s involved.
A lawyer is seemingly unjustly ostracized and can’t do anything about it.
Is this a man bites dog story or what.
You are judged by those who you associate with.
The attorney works at a firm actively involved in litigation against the owner of the venue who has every right to deny entrance to anyone they want for any reason .
Just as an airline can ban a passenger so can the venue.
MSG will prevail in a jury trial
Anyone who has been sued by some ambulance chaser will have zero sympathy for her.
Finally a reader with common sense. Well done.
Virtue-signaling will be the death of all of us!!!
