>Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident In Front of The Valley Hospital?

>The Fly has received numerous reports of a fatal motor vehicle accident that took place in front of The Valley Hospital on Friday morning. Reportedly, two Valley employees were involved; one was killed.

Members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Team and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification were observed at the scene taking measurements and photographs.

There has been no newspaper account of the incident thus far. Does anyone have further details? Is The Valley attempting to keep this incident under wraps so residents don’t bring it up at future hearings related to the hospital’s building expansion plans?

  1. >that damm valley again! its Valley’s fault we had those thunderstorms this morning! If it was a smaller hospital, then we would never have big storms! you folks are BRILLIANT!!!

  2. >Valley needs to buy up 5:09 PM’s house, too, bulldoze it down and put in a hellipad.

  3. >Hey, Valley is a great place to have a baby.

  4. >3:26- BF staff was NOT told that he died. I am a BF staff member. We were simply informed of the accident and that he had some severe injuries but was conscious and talking.
    I haaaaaaaaate the rumor mill!

  5. >lets get back to some facts.. at least for a moment: Why not build a regional trauma center? Why not make it a condition of their expansion… ie, less “for private profit” and more “for public good”…. ???

NO.. I am not from the left… but I still stick to the belief that WE residents of Ridgewood should be getting something out of this. So far, I cant think of a single benefit to the PUBLIC and to the TAXPAYERS. Either Valley has to pay taxes to help support the Ridgewood schools… or they have to bring a benefit to the residents that are impacted.

Take a second.. digest this.. and then respond. Yes, I dont want an expansion either.. UNLESS it benefits the majority of our village.

    Thoughts?

  6. >He’s NOT dead..he’s in Hackensack Hosp. with two broken legs and other injuries.

  7. >i am glad nobody died (if that is true) but the start blog is about why it is not in the paper? Every Freakin other thing that goes on in this town is – DUI – parents giving beer-pong parties…..the math – the river that runs thru the village hall….parking woes….but here, a serious, if not fatal accident occured and NOT A PEEP – It’s like the twilight zone! Somethin’ is fishy, why are the cops, the press and death valley, of course keeping the low-down, down low?

  8. >In all fairness, The Ridgewood News goes to press on Thursday and comes out on Friday. This accident happened last Friday. Let’s see if it’s in tomorrow’s newspaper. As for The Record, they were contacted earlier this week about this and I guess they didn’t find it newsworthy.

  9. >Level I Trauma Centers MUST treat a MINIMUM of 600 patients per year. Level II Trauma Centers MUST treat a MINIMUM of 350 patients per year. These are people who would not otherwise be coming to Valley Hospital.

What’s the Difference Between a Level I and a Level II Trauma Center?
Because of the large personnel and facility resources needed for patient care, education and research, most Level I trauma centers in the U.S. are university-affiliated teaching hospitals. This is the case in New Jersey, where all three Level I trauma centers are hospitals which are affiliated with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. A Level I trauma center is a regional resource facility and has the capability to provide total care for all aspects of trauma, from prevention through rehabilitation.
Level I trauma centers in New Jersey must treat a minimum of 600 patients per year. This is because data show there is a correlation between patient outcome and the number of procedures which a surgeon performs annually. Adequate experience with life-threatening or urgent cases is necessary for the trauma team to maintain its skills. Cost-effectiveness is also a consideration.

Level II trauma centers are also expected to provide definitive trauma care, regardless of the severity of injury. Level II trauma centers have most of the clinical capabilities of a Level I. Level II trauma centers are required to participate in trauma research conducted by the Level Is and to sponsor public and provider educational programs in cooperation with the Level I centers. Level II trauma centers must treat a minimum of 350 patients per year.

  10. >To clarify: Hackensack AND St. Joe’s Paterson are Level II (TWO) Trauma centers. Our nearest Level I is University Hospital in Newark. The primary difference, as stated by 4:30 PM is the number of patients seen/amount of research conducted. The level of care given at level II centers is no different from that at level Is. To expect Valley to provide the services of a Level II trauma center is ridiculous. If Valley then also Pasckack, Englewood, Good Sam, St Joe’s Wayne, Holy Name.

Everyone moans about valley until they’re suffering from a CVA and they’re treated by a leading stroke unit that just happens to be in their own backyard.

  11. >Today’s Ridgewood News has an item about the accident in the Police Blotter section. The BF worker is in Hackensack Hospital.

  12. >to 5:09
    Those thunderstorms were Bush’s fault.

  13. >For all those comments stating that the traffic on North Van Dien is not all that bad, try living here..It is constant, loud and never ending. It is virtually impossible to get out of my driveway when shifts change at Valley and when school lets out..They are turning this lovely neighborhood into a transient neighborhood, buying up houses and renting them on a month to month basis, and may I add not to Dr’s. Imagine pulling into your driveway and seeing your neighbors laundry outside on makeshift clothelines.. My family moved to Ridgewood mainly for its excellent school system, but also because of how beautiful and quaint the town is..Taxes are insane, Valley pays none, and now they want to expand, widen the roads, and arent even equipped to deal with trauma cases..Ask yourself, whats the point?? Do we seriously want or need Valley to monopolize our town?? I know i dont..

  14. I completely agree
