Ridgewood NJ, here we go again, flood watch is now in effect from Saturday morning through late Saturday night for portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York, including Bergen , Passaic and Hudson  counties. Excessive rainfall may lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas, especially in poor drainage and urban regions.

Key details include:

  • Prolonged rainfall is expected on Saturday into Saturday night, potentially heavy at times.
  • Total rainfall amounts of 2.5 to 3.5 inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible.
  • Flooding may persist into late Saturday night, particularly in areas prone to flooding.
  • For more information, visit http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood.

Ridgewood Flood Watch E-Notice

With heavy rains and strong winds forecast to impact our area tomorrow (Saturday), we are encouraging residents in low-lying areas of the Village to take the necessary precautions as we anticipate a possible flood event.

Currently, the National Weather Service is predicting between 2.5 and 3.5 inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts. Residents of the Village who live near the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook or the Saddle River are encouraged to monitor local weather reports for weather conditions and flood gauges.

If you have not already done so, we encourage all residents to sign up for the Village’s Emergency Alert Notifications. The Emergency Alert System allows the Village Office of Emergency Management, Ridgewood Police Department, Ridgewood Fire Department and Ridgewood Water to communicate emergency information to residents through Reverse 911 telephone calls, emails and text messages.

We also suggest that residents maintain situational awareness of potential flooding in their area by subscribing to WaterAlerts, a free mobile and desktop service of the U.S. Geological Survey, which allows you to choose local rivers and streams, set thresholds, and receive instant alerts when water levels are nearing flood stage.

Finally, another good resource is the National Water Prediction Service, which allows real-time monitoring of river flows. (Zoom in on the map.)

Please be aware and be safe!‍

  1. Just the best…warms the cackles !

  2. Say goodbye to the artificial turf fields. This will mark the end of this insanity.

    1. Or not

  3. Was the money spent on these artificial turf fields and repeated repairs worth it? Is it giving more playing time? The answer is clearly no. Time to reverse course and rip it out.

  5. Did anything flood today?

  6. Turf bubbling up again.

  7. You need to realize; if we still had grass fields the soil would be contaminated which makes the filed unable regardless. Get a reality check already.

    1. By what? Harmful chemicals? Gasoline? No, by the same flotsam and jetsam that would be found on the turf after a flood. However, the turf surface couldn’t simply be raked and dried to allow for continued play. It has to be pulled up, raked out and fastened down again. And by the way, the ground up rubber under the turf is toxix.

    2. And turf is toxic, Eistein. I think there are things that YOU have to realize. They say you cannot fix stupid…people played on grass for hundreds of years. People because superstars playing on grass. The fact that we keep toxically turfing a field that has been established to legit flood is beyond crazy. There is no extended playtime if you can’t get on it.

  8. Fortunately flooding was not as bad as the last time but fields were damaged again. Going to delay use before they can be repaired.

  9. People are using the grass fields the next day.

  10. Get the hell out there again. Clean it up.
    Oh yeah

  11. Let’s get these rain basins cleaned out. Most are dirty , can u imagine what is the pipes under ground. Oh boy.
