Ridgewood NJ, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Bergen County till Sunday morning.

FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING… * WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

For portions of northeast New Jersey, including the following areas, Eastern Bergen, Eastern Essex, Eastern Passaic, Eastern Union, Hudson, Western Bergen, Western Essex, Western Passaic and Western Union and southeast New York, including the following area, Rockland. * WHEN…From this evening through Sunday morning.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Low pressure is expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of rain across the area. Some locally higher amounts are possible. The heaviest of the rain is expected to occur this evening into the overnight hours. The steady rainfall should end by daybreak Sunday. Due to saturated conditions from the recent rainfall events earlier this week, quick responding rivers and streams may reach or exceed bankfull. In addition, coastal flooding may exacerbate flooding on tidal rivers.

  1. Rain started at noon, this will get interesting.

  2. So let’s keep removing trees and building more fake turf fields and putting 80 ft high lights near people’s homes. Crumb rubber runoff from the floating turf bubbles and mud drying on top of the turf with massive folds and wrinkles, leaving us with six figures repairs every time it rains more than three days in a row is really really stupid. WAKE UP!

    1. Peoples priorities are not in the right place, they only want Instant satisfaction! Whatever it costs, with no regard to all Taxpayers!

Last year remember when the council meeting was held to propose lay offs of town workers was on the table (no money in budget) which many town employees respectively silently showed up from all departments, Note: the public comments also had many parents with their children [some crying], speaking up FOR when the New turf ball fields were to get done and be ready at the proposed Schedler /Zabriskie location on W. Saddle River Rd. for softball opening day. Unbelievable where people place priorities!

In municipal parking lot just before start of meeting, E. W. was seen and heard, just got out of his car, was asked by a parent who he knew, where kids were practicing on muni field, “Hi E., is this new field at Schedler going to get done? E. said Yes, it’s a done deal, Yea, don’t worry, its gonna get done, they have to have this open meeting as protocol.”
I was not happy to hear that statement, so its all a pony show. (the cards were dealt).

As we all know, follow up council meeting, town found money to appropriate so there would not be any layoffs of employees.

Agree with Kruse L. comments : ” Crumb rubber runoff from the floating turf bubbles and mud drying on top of the turf with massive folds and wrinkles, leaving us with six figures repairs every time it rains more than three days in a row is really really stupid. WAKE UP!

      1. Yes I agree with your first hand account. There has always been a great deal of hand shaking, back patting, congratulating of crying kids for being brave and the list goes on. Paul, Evan and Siobahn especially have very strong ties to the sports community and will do cartwheels and backbends to please them (ie., votes and popularity) plus it has been rumored that SW husband, who was a soccer guy, wanted to start a team. Never once in all of the meetings that I have listed to, have I EVER heard someone from the sports organizations, sports parents or kids express anything for anyone else except for “keeping their eye on the ball” to get what they want, not need. So selfish to prioritize a field over health and safety for residents. Where is the sportsmanship in this scenario? COLD, man, just cold.

  3. We all wonder what the army core engineering recommend the village to do regarding flooding.

  4. Here we go again! Fill it in! Need to RAISE the field by 6 Feet with tons of Rocks and Stone, and loads of infill dirt on top before turf is put down.
Otherwise, field as is, will be a forever swimming pool.
Alternatively, find higher ground to build a new field.

    1. And where will the water go? I to the surrounding neighborhood….

      1. Sent it down river to Lodi and Garfield.

  5. Fields are under water

  6. Raising the fields would displace floodwaters and could lead to increased flooding. We supposedly can’t dredge the brook because that would increase water flow and impact towns downstream. There is no easy solution but hopefully something can be done.
