Mahwah NJ, former Mahwah Football player, was found shot to death at Ohio State University on Sunday .

The person identified as Ohio State student Chase Meola, 23, was found in the parking area of the house when police arrived, and pronounced dead at the scene, Ohio State said in a neighborhood safety notice Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday at 124 E. 14th Avenue, the address of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house at the corner of Indianola Avenue.

Meola was a fifth-year marketing major from Mahwah, New Jersey, the university said.

Chase Meola graduated from Mahwah High School in 2016, where he played both football and lacrosse according to his personal Facebook page and to a high school athletics website, MaxPreps.

Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi said on Facebook , “A heartbreaking senseless murder in Ohio took a beloved son, brother and member of the Mahwah community today. While I don’t know Chase personally many of my friends from Mahwah did. He was beloved by many. May his family find strength to navigate through the difficult times in the days, weeks and months ahead.”

  1. Awful…thoughts go out to the parents…

  2. What a shame. I hear the murderer was apprehended but no description.

    1. Columbus police Sgt. James Fuqua said police located Kinte Mitchell Jr., 18, several blocks away. Mitchell was positively identified as the shooter, according to court documents, and has been charged with murder in Meola’s death. There is no indication Mitchell is enrolled at Ohio State, Fuqua said. /
