Ridgewood NJ, Students heading back to class for the spring semester on NJ TRANSIT’s bus, rail or light rail systems can save some money thanks to the “Buy 3 Months, Get 1 Month Free” Student Pass promotion. This cost-saving program was popular with college students traveling back to campuses for the fall semester. The Student Pass, in partnership with participating regional colleges and universities, offers full-time students a 25-percent discount off an already discounted monthly rail, bus or light rail pass, when they buy it via the NJ TRANSIT mobile app for commuting to and from a qualifying school.
“This discount promotion proved so popular with students in the fall that we knew we had to extend it for the spring semester,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett. “Along with our rigorous and nation-leading cleaning and disinfection protocols, this promotion also represents another way NJ TRANSIT is working to attract customers back to our system and encourage transit ridership at this time – for the sake of our customers, our economy, and our planet.”
To qualify for the program, a student at a partner college or university must buy a student monthly pass via the NJ TRANSIT mobile app for three consecutive months: February, March and April of 2022. When the student completes the qualifying purchases in February, March and April, then they will receive a Student Pass equal to the lowest-price purchase made in the previous three months and valid only for May 2022 transportation.
For a student to be eligible, a school must offer Student Pass registration via their website and verify a student’s eligibility each semester. The student must purchase their Student Pass using the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App using their school credentials. Once verified, Student Pass will appear each month as a ticket option during NJ TRANSIT’s usual monthly pass purchase period, beginning at the 19th of the preceding month through the 10th of the travel month.
After the third qualifying purchase, a monthly pass good for the month of May 2022 will be available during the May monthly pass purchase window. The free month’s pass will be equal to the lowest-priced purchase made in the previous three months and is valid for May 2022 use only. The free May 2022 pass is non-refundable, non-transferrable and will not include Metro-North stations or Newark Liberty International Airport.
Through this promotion, students can save more than 60-percent off transportation to campus during the spring 2022 semester (February-May) when compared to purchasing one-way transportation.
