PARAMUS, NJ – A Friday the 13th commute turned into a chaotic scene on Route 17 southbound as a chain-reaction crash left a Paramus police officer and a local resident injured.
The Incident on Route 17
Just before noon on Friday, February 13, 2026, emergency crews rushed to the southbound lanes of Route 17 between A&S Drive and Midland Avenue. According to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti, the collision occurred in the center lane during typical stop-and-go midday traffic.
Injuries and Emergency Response
The crash involved a 26-year-old Paramus Police patrol officer who was operating a department vehicle. The impact was severe enough to trigger the vehicle’s airbag deployment. The officer was transported to The Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
A second victim, a 67-year-old woman from Paramus, also required medical attention. She was taken to the same hospital after reporting body pain at the scene.
Paramus Police Department IAEP Local 201 and EMTs from Paramus EMS provided immediate medical assistance. Two of the vehicles involved were heavily damaged and had to be cleared by a flatbed tow truck, causing temporary delays on the busy highway.

Ongoing Investigation
While the roadway has since been cleared, the exact cause of the chain-reaction collision remains under investigation by the Paramus Police Department.
