Englewood NJ, Englewood Mayor and renowned immigration attorney Michael Wildes is expanding his academic footprint, joining Columbia Law School this fall as a Lecturer in Law.

Wildes, who has served as an Adjunct Professor at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law for fifteen years, will teach at both institutions simultaneously this coming semester. At Columbia, he will instruct a course focused on Business Immigration, Visas, Workforce, and Compliance Law.

Decades at the Forefront of U.S. Immigration Law

With nearly four decades of experience in immigration law, public service, and higher education, Wildes brings a wealth of practical expertise to Ivy League students.

He serves as Managing Partner of Wildes & Weinberg, P.C., an immigration law firm founded in 1960 by his father, Leon Wildes. The firm famously represented former Beatle John Lennon and Yoko Ono Lennon in a landmark deportation defense case that fundamentally shaped modern U.S. immigration policy.

Over his career, Wildes has represented high-profile clients ranging from Fortune 500 executives and heads of state to world-renowned celebrities, including:

  • Entertainment & Culture: Yoko Ono Lennon, Sinead O’Connor, Boy George, Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton, and Millie Bobby Brown.

  • Sports & Fashion: Pelé, Karim Benzema, Mike Tyson, Gisele Bündchen, and Ana Ivanovic.

  • Public Figures & Authors: Melania Trump, chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and author Tom Clancy.

A Career Spanning Public Service and Law

In addition to private practice, Wildes served as a Federal Prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY) from 1989 to 1993. He currently serves in his fifth term as Mayor of Englewood, New Jersey, and holds positions as Immigration Counsel to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Yeshiva University.

Wildes is also an author with the American Bar Association, having written Safe Haven in America: Battles to Open the Golden Door (2018) and the forthcoming title From Origin to Opportunity: Unlocking U.S. Immigration Law.

At Columbia Law, Wildes aims to provide students with a real-world perspective on navigating complex legal and workforce policies, bridging theory with decades of firsthand experience in legal practice and public service.
