Full-day kindergarten in Wayne would cost double the number publicized

WAYNE — Full-day kindergarten supporters say a modest tax increase is a small price to pay for enhancing early childhood learning at a time of rising academic standards.

But if a special question on implementing full-day kindergarten passes in November, the cost to taxpayers per year will be much higher than the number supplied by the district.

  1. No to full day Kindergarten. That’s tied to High Density Housing. Read the report published by the consultant hired for school studies. He said “enough new teachers will be hired for the new full day K program, to fullfill the needs of new kids coming in from high density housing”

  2. This will be another hoax put on the taxpayer for an over priced baby sitting club. Those that want it should pay for it.

  3. Fishbein will be pushing hard for this through the November election. Most referendums do pass. Anybody feel like making sure this one fails? We cannot afford it and if it would give developers an easier time, all the more reason to squelch it NOW.

  4. I wouldn’t live in Wayne if it was free. Does that help.

  5. The fixed costs will be a part of future budgets, we will never be able to shed the bloat

Parents can pay for enrichment for their little Einsteins for one year. Full day K will saddle taxpayers with the cost for years to come.

We do not live in an area where these programs provide a respite for children at risk. In many urban areas young children need a safe place to go when parents are working. Kids get social services, health care and two meals a day. Ridgewood children do not have these pressing needs. We only have “wants”.

  6. Maybe we can partner with Valley Hospital and hand over our kids to the system immediately from birth.
Why wait 5 years for the indoctrination to begin?

  7. 6:37- Well said.
