Glen Rock NJ, Mayor Kristine Morieko, Councilwoman Mary Barchetto and Chief Dean Ackermann tested out the new Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFB) located on Maple Ave at the Ambulance Building/Wilde Park. RRFBs are used to enhance the visibility of standard pedestrian and school crossing warning signs at uncontrolled marked crosswalks.
The device includes two rectangular-shaped yellow indications, each with an LED-array-based light source, that flash with high frequency when activated. The RRFB’s irregular flashing pattern is unlit when not activated and can be activated manually by pedestrians using a push button or passively by a pedestrian detection system.
Sergeant Scott McGovern, from our Traffic Bureau, installed the beacons this past weekend. There are plans to put up more in the coming months at various locations in town that have increased foot traffic.
