Glen Rock NJ, tragedy struck the aviation community when North Jersey resident Boris Yusupov, of Glen Rock, was identified as the pilot who tragically lost his life in a plane crash in Savannah on the night of October 13th. Yusupov was piloting a 1964 Cessna 336, departing from Miami Executive Airport at 6:16 p.m. The plane crashed in midtown Savannah just before 10 p.m., according to FlightAware tracking data.
There was one other passenger on board with Yusupov, whose identity has not yet been made public. However, the passenger was able to escape with minor injuries, police said. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the crash, and a preliminary report with factual details is expected within the next 30 days. The final report, which will include contributing factors, is anticipated in 12 to 24 months.
The plane was co-owned by Jorge Marti of Miami, who had listed it for sale in a Facebook group dedicated to Cessna enthusiasts for $85,000. Aviation mechanic Brian Leftwich, based in Savannah and familiar with Cessna aircraft, speculated that the crash might have been caused by the plane running out of fuel, though this has not yet been confirmed.
In the wake of this devastating loss, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Yusupov’s family. Described as a “devoted husband and loving father of four young children,” Yusupov was an experienced pilot who had flown across the globe, sharing his passion for aviation with others. The fundraiser aims to help the family with funeral costs and offer financial assistance during this difficult time. As of Friday afternoon, the campaign had raised over $11,000.
The aviation community, friends, and family are mourning the loss of a beloved pilot, while investigators work to uncover the reasons behind the tragic accident.
