Trenton NJ, New Jersey saw over 8,000 deaths in long-term care facilities due to COVID-19, making up 40% of the state’s total death count. Along with New York, New Jersey is among the states with the highest numbers of COVID-19 nursing home deaths in the nation.

On Friday Governor Phil Murphy, Senate President Steve Sweeney, and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin  announced that the new Department of Health building in Downtown Trenton will be named after Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli, the women pat lest partially responsible for this total policy disaster.

Meanwhile, Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican candidate for governor, blasted what he called Phil Murphy’s “victory lap.”‘

Saying it was “offensive” to residents who died in nursing homes, to students who lost a year of in-person instruction and to small businesses that closed because of pandemic regulations.

As for the vaccine program, Ciattarelli said it was county governments (and the Federal Government Operation Wrap Speed under President Trump) that made it a success and that Murphy should be thanking them.
