The Gymboree retail children’s clothing chain closed its store located at 234 East Ridgewood Avenue late last week. The building is owned by Milridge Realty, LLC of Tenafly, NJ. No word on whether the building owner has a new tenant scheduled to move in.
The Gymboree Corporation is a specialty retailer operating stores selling high-quality apparel and accessories for children under the Gymboree, Gymboree Outlet, Janie and Jack, and Crazy 8 brands, as well as play programs for children under the Gymboree Play and Music brand.
The nearest Gymboree store to Ridgewood is at the Paramus Park shopping mall
That’s a shame. I am a Ridgewood resident and Gymboree is a quality store. If it wasn’t so difficult finding parking downtown, I would have shopped there more often…
#1, that may be the case but Gymboree has been struggling nationally (negative comparable sales down 10% from a year ago). They are closing 30-40 stores this year, and opening more of their other concept stores..
#1. Clearly someone who wants the contract to build the garage.
Good luck with that. The parking garage is going Hudson St by The Mayor friends. I dough that you would park there and walk all the way to Gymboree.
Sorry #3, no, just a working mom without a lot of time to circle around downtown.
I have a really hard time taking your comment seriously. Even at peak parking times, there are always available spaces. You might have to walk a minute or two. If you are circling waiting for a space right outside the store, then that’s pretty lazy.
I agree with #6. I am a working mom and have never been unable to find a spot in town…day, night, weekdays or weekends. I do confess that I didn’t shop at this store, but that’s mostly because my kids did not like the clothes.
Not true, Declan. I am neither lazy nor stating an inaccuracy. Many times I have been unable to find a parking spot in that area. Maybe behind the board of ed building where there are meters, but it’s still a walk with three small kids. I could care less if you take my comment seriously. The point is, there is a serious lack of parking downtown without the addition of hundreds of new apartments. If you can’t understand that, maybe you need to take a closer look at what is happening before the planning board..if you aren’t too lazy, that is..
I hear you #8. If it is 10am, sure you can find spots. 12:30 not so easy. Those who speak in absolutes are very limited in their experiences.
#8 – and a parking garage would be easier with 3 kids than a surface level lot? I think not. And putting a parking garage in any of the proposed locations will NOT address that end of Ridgewood Ave.
I’m a full-time working mom with two kids who’s lived here 23 years and I’ve never been delayed by more than 2 or 3 minutes finding parking. I don’t mind walking along Ridgewood Ave.; always something to see or someone to say hello to.
#8 – so if there is a garage, you will be leaving the kids in the car????? Not the best use of the garage, but it will make your walk to the store a bit easier…..
You bet they closed this store….. With the rent they were paying it was the first to close and it will remain empty….
