RIDGEWOOD — Micaela McPadden wastes no time.

In her four years of varsity track and field at Ridgewood High School, the 5-foot-6 sprinter/hurdler built her reputation on getting to the point as quickly as possible — and often spoke about her races in similar fashion.

True to form, the affable McPadden was both fast and friendly in relating the reasons she chose the University of Rhode Island at RHS National Letter of Intent Media Day on June 12. She involuntarily showed another example of her perseverance that day as well, since she was battling a sore throat and partial loss of voice.

“I was looking at Loyola [in Baltimore] and UMass, too, but I always knew I wanted to go to Rhode Island,” she said. “I like the location, it’s close to the beach… it was just a good fit for me.”
