Hackensack NJ, as the Thanksgiving holiday approached, the City of Hackensack Fire Department was called to respond to two significant emergencies, demonstrating their swift action and coordination with local agencies.
November 26: Train vs. Vehicle Collision
Hackensack firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Railroad Avenue involving a car and an NJ Transit train. Engine 4, Rescue 1, and Deputy 4 responded to the scene.
Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle managed to exit safely before the train collision, and no serious injuries were reported. This quick-thinking action likely prevented a far more severe outcome.
November 27: Rollover Accident with Entrapment
The following evening, Engine 5, Rescue 1, and Deputy 1 were called to the intersection of Spring Valley Avenue and Summit Avenue for a motor vehicle accident involving a rollover with entrapment.
Fire crews worked alongside the Hackensack Police Department (HPD) and Hackensack University Medical Center EMS to free the trapped individual. The teams provided on-scene patient care and prepared the individual for transport to a nearby hospital.
A Reminder of Firefighters’ Critical Role
These back-to-back incidents highlight the Hackensack Fire Department’s commitment to protecting their community. From preventing potential train-related casualties to managing complex rescue operations, their teamwork and expertise ensure the safety of residents during emergencies.
