South Hackensack Man Charged with DWI and Heroin Possession After Maywood Collision

MAYWOOD, NJ – A dangerous head-on collision disrupted the Thursday afternoon commute in Maywood, leading to the arrest of a South Hackensack man on multiple serious charges, including driving while intoxicated and drug possession.

The Incident on West Passaic Street

According to Maywood Police Chief Terence Kenny, the crash occurred just before 2:25 p.m. on Thursday, February 12. Antonio Hanna, 33, of South Hackensack, was traveling westbound on West Passaic Street in a Volkswagen Golf.

Witness reports and police findings indicate that Hanna crossed over the double-yellow lines near the Park Avenue Acura dealership, veering directly into oncoming traffic. His vehicle struck an eastbound Mercedes-Benz CLK head-on.

Injuries and Emergency Response

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz sustained injuries in the impact and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center. Fortunately, the injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

Arrest and Serious Charges

Following the collision, officers conducted standardized field sobriety tests on Hanna, which he failed. Upon further investigation, police also discovered suspected heroin in Hanna’s possession.

Antonio Hanna faces a long list of charges, including:

• DWI (Driving While Intoxicated)

• Assault by Auto

• Possession of Heroin

• Seven additional motor vehicle summonses

Hanna was transported to the Bergen County Jail, where he is currently lodged pending a scheduled court appearance.
