TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON, NJ — Local infrastructure improvements are hitting the pavement this week. The Township of Washington has officially kicked off a multi-day road improvement project in partnership with Frank Macchione Inc.

Starting Monday, April 20, residents should prepare for detours and temporary closures as crews begin milling and paving operations across several key residential streets. The project is expected to be completed within five days, contingent on weather conditions.

The Paving Schedule: What to Expect

Work will take place daily between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. To help you plan your commute, here is the day-by-day breakdown:

  • Monday, 04/20: Milling and paving begins on the entire length of Bergen Avenue. Milling operations will also start on Fern Street (from Cypress St to Bergen Ave).

  • Tuesday, 04/21: Milling continues on Fern Street, with paving operations scheduled to follow immediately.

  • Wednesday, 04/22: Focus shifts to Salem Road and Carriage Court for milling. Paving will be finalized on Fern Street.

  • Thursday, 04/23: Final paving operations for both Salem Road and Carriage Court (entire lengths).

Essential Tips for Residents

To ensure the project moves quickly and safely, the Township and the Washington Township Police Department have issued the following guidelines:

  1. Move Your Vehicles: Residents are strongly encouraged to move cars out of driveways before 7:00 AM on their scheduled milling/paving days. Once the process begins, access to driveways may be restricted.

  2. Observe “No Parking” Signs: Please pay close attention to temporary signage. Vehicles left on the street in work zones may be subject to relocation.

  3. Plan Your Trips: On paving days, residents are asked to limit trips on the affected roadways to allow the new asphalt to set properly.

  4. End-of-Day Access: While sections of these streets will be closed during work hours, they will be reopened to local traffic at the end of each workday.
