Ho=Ho-Kus NJ, this week, the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department had the honor of hosting distinguished guests from the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA). Chief LaCroix, Captain McBain, Detective Santos, and Officers Sweetman, Kim, and Cronin extended a warm welcome to the visiting officers during their time in the borough.
About the Korean National Police Agency
The Korean National Police Agency is a central law enforcement organization in South Korea, operating under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Headquartered in Seodaemun, Seoul, the KNPA oversees 18 local police agencies, including the renowned Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Unlike the decentralized structure of law enforcement in the United States, South Korea’s police agencies operate as part of a unified national system, emphasizing a top-down approach to law enforcement.
A Global Leadership Program in Action
The visiting officers were selected to study abroad as part of the prestigious Global Leadership in Criminal Justice Program at Saint Peter’s University. Now in its second year, this program provides international officers with the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in law enforcement practices across different countries.
Exploring Ho-Ho-Kus
During their visit, the Korean officers were given an in-depth look at the workings of the Ho-Ho-Kus community. Their itinerary included tours of the police department, borough hall, ambulance corps, and fire department. The officers also had the unique opportunity to participate in a ride-along with Ho-Ho-Kus police, offering them an authentic glimpse into the day-to-day responsibilities of local law enforcement in a small American town.
Building Bridges Across Borders
This exchange highlights the importance of fostering international collaboration and understanding in law enforcement. By sharing knowledge and experiences, both the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department and the Korean National Police Agency are contributing to the development of innovative strategies for public safety and community engagement.
The Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department is proud to have been part of this enriching exchange and looks forward to future opportunities to collaborate with law enforcement agencies around the world.
