the staff of The Ridgewood Blog
Ridgewood NJ, Is it just us, or has anyone else noticed the antagonistic, condescending, & unprofessional behavior exhibited by certain staff members during Board of Education (BOE) meetings? Specifically, many interactions between these staff members and elected Board members are quite frequently hostile to the point of being embarrassing.

As we see it, elected members of the Board are “in charge” and should be treated with the respect due their positions. Public meetings are not the place for an employee to become argumentative and disrespectful in response to questions posed by any elected official.
Frankly, things got so out of hand at the last BOE meeting that we became uncomfortable watching it. We also wonder if the employee in question has been spoken to about appropriate behavior during public meetings. Perhaps he/she should be seeking new employment if the current political climate on Cottage Place isn’t to his/her liking. Just our opinion.
If I’d ever behaved like that during a work meeting, I would have been out the door on my ass.
There are 2 repeat offenders at those meetings and they both seem to target the same 2 BOE members. Hmm. Wonder why? Oh, I get it now. Disgusting. They should both be sent packing.
Bisig and Poelstra are so rude. It is cringe-worthy. They are horrible
In this world you have to give respect to get it. If these BOE members are consistently condescending and disrespectful to their staff, they should expect (and deserve) the same in return.
And this is why there is no way we will be able to attract any talented superintendent- there is no way they’d want to work with this BOE.
A public meeting is an inappropriate venue to express your grievances.
Agreed. Tell that to the BOE members too.
What is this exotic notion of “talent” in educational administration? A superintendent is in charge of a school system of 10 schools and only 5,600 students. It’s not NYC and it certainly isn’t NASA. Make sure the individual has a decent record of achievement in making sure kids meet appropriate educational milestones and isn’t a Leftist lunatic. It ain’t rocket science!
Nothing new, it’s been the same thing at village hall since I can remember. Would love to know who’s the trouble maker. Miss information runs through that building.
OR maybe the hostility you are seeing is just a continuation of the rude behavior towards staff that occurs during non public meetings by certain members of the BOE. We’ve seen it before, remember when the same certain board members had issues with the last BA and drove her away from RW with their hostility?
Who is/are the common denominators here?
A public meeting is not the place to air your displeasure with management. If you feel that you were being mistreated, notify HR and/or file a lawsuit.
Could someone tell us what happened?
WHAT HE SAID….
There is a lot of vague insinuations and references to behavior with no specifics.
This generally points to an individual who wants to only paint one side of the issue (in this case the messaging is “staff members are rude and “wrong” in their behavior to elected, in-charge “superior” officials). This view MAY be accurate (or may not) but there is no knowing without identifying the specific behaviors of ALL participants in the context of the situation.
Watch the meeting on YouTube and you will see for yourself.
The problem is, they are not getting along in the sandbox.
The village is so toxic, it’s just amazing
If 60% of all staff members were replaced tomorrow, including a number of department heads, by people with more smarts, more experience, and a better attitude, we would be in far better shape. Instead it’s a question of waiting out their pre-retirement years.
Sometimes toxicity must be met head on with substances slightly more toxic, delivered in highly effective doses.
Typical of all mafias.
