How to Be Credible When Applying for an Online Job

People have been laid off from their jobs because of COVID-19 recently. Finding a job these days is a bit challenging. We’re going through a new situation, and we’re gradually adapting to it. Part of adapting is finding new jobs online. It took a pandemic to teach us that we can do most, if not all, types of work from home. The problem lies in the hiring process. How can the recruiters and employers trust us when they’ve only seen us online? Here are our tips on how to make yourself credible when applying for an online job.

1.Update Your Resume

Your resume has all your education information, work experience, and skills. For you to be accepted at a job, office-based, or home-based, they have to accept your resume first. The first step before applying for jobs is to update it. If there are any changes in your contact information like your number or email, remember to make the change. Include the latest in your work experience as well. Write up until the latest job you’ve had with a short job description of your duties.

2.Set Up and Update Professional Profiles

If you don’t have an account on the popular professional networking platforms like LinkedIn, start setting up one. Make sure it has all your job-related information, career interests, and skills. If you have samples of your work online, link them in your profile. There are new tools that can make you add multiple links to one link. This way, you can create a page for yourself and your business, according to the developers at this website, with a custom link to add to profile links. You can check these tools online to find one that works for you.

3.Do Your Research

Researching the job is one of the strategies that may help you get it. Read a bit about its history, values, mission, and goals. And read more about the company’s key players. Key players mean the employees with important positions. You can find a lot of information on the company’s site, and if not, on their Facebook page. Also, familiarize yourself with the company’s values and culture, to know if they work for you or not. The whole point of this research is when you’re asked why you want to work for this company, you have an honest answer.

4.Write a Cover Letter

You read the company’s story, now it’s your turn to make them read yours. In a cover letter, you can talk about your journey, qualifications, and skills. You can also elaborate on why you would like to work for that company in particular. The best thing about cover letters is that you have to write a different one for each company. Your cover letter is also where you plead your case. As you get the chance to convince the employer why they should hire you for this position.

5.Have Your Career Planned out

You will be asked about your career plans in the form of a “where do you see yourself in 5 years?” question. It’s not an easy question and coming up with an answer on the spot won’t seem credible or sincere. That’s why it’s important to have your career planned out. You can then find an answer to that question. And it will be helpful to you in the long run. The trick is to start from the near future, not from the 5 years. Start planning what you want to do in 6 months, then 12 months, and so on.

6.Be Honest in the Interview

You will not worry about being believed when you’re telling the truth. You will seem more confident then, and you will also seem credible. Let them see that you know what you want and what you don’t want. If they ask you about your weaknesses, tell them what you can’t do for real, and that you’re willing to learn more. Remember that honesty is what they want, and they will be impressed when they find it.

You need more than just luck to land the job of your dreams. It needs some hard work and a little bit of effort. The moment you find a job post you’re interested in, you should update your resume before you apply. Read the career interests, and skills and change them to match your current state. Then you need to write a cover letter to tell the employers why you may be their best candidate. Then research the company well and make a career plan. Lastly, you need to impress them with your credibility in the online interview.
