The year 2020 has been quite an eventful one so far, and it’s been exhausting, to say the least! We’ve been faced with trying circumstances that have forced us all to spend more time at home. And this isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world, because we’ve finally had the time to realize a couple of things that we’ve been overlooking. It’s becoming more and more important for us to be conscious of the planet that we live in, and how the things we do and use have a great impact on it. So if ever there was a time to commit to going green, it looks like 2020 is it! This is why we’ve come up with essential suggestions to help you on your journey to living a better, greener life.
Rethink How You Use Energy
We’ve gotten so used to our appliances and the way we use up our energy that the majority of us really don’t see the fault in our ways- in fact, we don’t even think to change the way we use energy or consider how much of a difference it could make for the planet. If you want to start going green, then you need to start now. Consider using solar energy to provide electricity for your home. Do some research online and get more info here on what goes into getting solar power installed and how effective it can be. While in some cases this might cost you a bit, this is only for the initial cost of installation. What comes after that is considerably fewer bills and of course, you won’t be using any of the resources that use fossil fuels to provide energy- and this is a big deal. You want to also become more conscious of how you use your energy. When you’re at home, you need to be more conscious of how much water you use, and also be sure to unplug all of your electrical appliances from the source once you’re done using them.
Reuse and Recycle
The easiest and one of the most effective changes that you can make in order to lead a greener lifestyle is to start reusing and recycling what you can. Try your best to stay away from plastics and stick to alternatives that are reusable, such as tote bags, stainless steel straws, and carry around your own water bottle rather than buying the plastic ones. Learn how to turn your food waste into compost so that you can utilize it in the garden that you are going to grow!
Grow Your Own Herbs and Vegetables
You want to literally bring more greenery into your life. This is certainly not just aesthetic pleasure- this is something that is amazing for air around you, and also allows you to grow your own herbs and vegetables. Depending on the space you have, you’ll be able to set up a garden of a certain size. You need to learn more about different herbs and vegetables and understand what it takes to grow them properly in order to do this successfully. If you have a balcony or a backyard, then be sure to grow something out there as well because you want to encourage nature to flourish around you- this means insects, birds, and wildlife in general.
Get Rid of Your Car
You have to come to terms with the fact that your car is a big contributor to the pollution that plagues our planet. If you want to go greener, then you need to get rid of your car and either get an eco-friendly car or think about different means of transportation- the best being getting a bicycle and getting around that way!
Get More Involved
Lastly, the best way to really go green is to get involved in an organization that is helping to better the world through their movements. Do your research and see how you can possibly contribute to saving the planet. You can either make a donation or volunteer to help.
If you feel like you want to make a difference in the world, then 2020 is right about that time where you need to make a couple of changes. If you commit to the suggestions made here, then you’ll find that you will be making a big difference in the way you live your life, and you’ll be doing your part in saving the planet, one small step at a time. All it takes is a lot of knowledge and enough commitment and you will surely be making effective changes for yourself on a personal level, and for the planet as well.
Thanks for this post James. My son is a fisherman ( eats what he catches)and is seeing all sorts of salamanders, toads and a variety of fish that are in the streams and rivers that once were not there. It is definitely warmer in the Adirondacks and there has been less motor boating since the restrictions which has allowed for somewhat cleaner water.
