As lawmakers consider a Democratically sponsored bill to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour in as soon as five years, state Republicans are pointing to the wage hike’s potential impact to New Jersey’s already strained budget. In his testimony at the Senate Labor Committee hearing where that bill advanced Monday, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon predicted that healthcare providers who receive state funding would turn to the state to offset the cost. They left out the increase in unemployment payments
the rate needs to go up,
LOL at the hypothesis that the minimum wage hike precipitated these kiosks. They were under development well before the wage hike was discussed. This is just another example of the evolving ability to replace labor with capital. Instead of serving burgers, learn how to repair kiosks, I guess. Or empty the trash and clean the place up…
A vending machine makes and serves a burger?
Yes, technology is replacing the need for humans in the job sphere. What makes the process move faster is a thing called incentives. Technology isn’t cheap, and its advancement is linked directly to opportunity cost. Upping the cost of paying employees simply speeds the process us, especially when we’re talking zero-skill type jobs. The next step in fast food places will be the elimination of the cashiers. Orders will be placed at kiosks where payment is also made. There will still be a few people doing the prep and serve. Eventually, they, too, will be replaced.
who cares, 10 bucks is shit for n j. i can see 12
I don’t want food prepared by a machine. I don’t even own a microwave.
There is only one purpose for having a minimum wage. VOTES.
Not every job is a career. If you want an incentive to get a higher wage, get promoted.
I’m glad to see smart restaurants have a touch screen kiosk to order food . I saw it at panera, wawa, and quick check. Home Depot and stop/ shop encourage self checkout . Look for the elimination of more low level jobs.
they should put that in village hall .
