Dear RPS Community,

It has been brought to my attention that antisemitic graffiti was recently discovered on a bathroom wall at
Ridgewood High School. This incident was immediately reported to the Ridgewood Police Department, and a thorough investigation is currently underway. The Ridgewood Public School District prides itself on being a diverse and inclusive community where all individuals are valued and treated with respect. Incidents of this nature go against our core values and beliefs and will not be tolerated.

The Ridgewood Public Schools provide a rich educational experience that is grounded in fostering empathy, building understanding, and cultivating a positive school community. Through our comprehensive curriculum, special programs, speakers, and activities, students learn about citizenship and the importance of being an upstander. We will continue to reinforce these expectations and ideals on a daily basis and strive for a society free of bias and discrimination.

As the Interim Superintendent of Schools, I, along with the leadership in our schools, will uphold our
responsibility to protect all of our students and provide a safe place to engage in meaningful learning, work, and play. I encourage you to continue to discuss these important issues with your children. If you have specific concerns, please reach out to your child’s principal.

Sincerely,

Leonard D. Fitts, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent of Schools

  2. Expulsion would only exacerbate the issue. Much, much better to educate them.
