Ridgewood NJ, two separate arrests made within 1000 feet of a private school during recent months for driving under the influence, one of which included drug possession charges as well, prompt The Ridgewood Blog to now question whether there is adequate signage in place identifying all school zones within Ridgewood. Particularly, are there any “Drug Free School Zone” signs erected?
A member of our staff was recently told that in the past, Village officials chose not to install “Drug Free School Zone” signs. We wonder why; does anyone know? Regardless of what happened in the past, now might be a good time to revisit the installation of such signage. Criminal defense attorneys are currently advertising on the internet that having no knowledge of being in a school zone as a possible strategy in drug possession and driving while under the influence cases.
What about your child’s school? Is there any signage identifying the area within 1000 feet as a school zone, or a “Drug Free School Zone?” Take a look around and let us know. Why would any Village official not want such signs in place?

Be a whole lot cooler if the signs said School-free Drug Zone.

School zones are 24/7 in many locations. Learning is always in session. Consult your local ordinances. Don’t like it? Do something about it! You have the POWER!
Yeah. Put up more signs. THAT will stop drunks from driving past schools.
