THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS
Concerts wrap up
To The Editor:
The final performance of the Kasschau Memorial Shell Concerts was held on Aug. 2. It was a glorious night with a full moon and a warm breeze. Marlene VerPlanck was the performer that night. We are so fortunate to have a performer in Ridgewood who has sung with Frank Sinatra and Mel Tome and performed all over the world.
Other Kasschau Memorial Shell artists have performed at Carnegie Hall, the Oak Room at the Algonquin, the Garden State Arts Center and on the Tonight Show and have been seen on Broadway in Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. The music performed at the various concerts is eclectic covering jazz, calypso, pop standards and Broadway Show Tunes.
These outdoor concerts begin in June and end in early August and our thanks go to the enthusiastic audiences that have ranged up to more than 600 a performance. Volunteer members of the Kasschau Memorial Shell Committee give of their time to arrange for these musical presentations and the Recreation Department of Ridgewood facilitates their work. Greg Gallo and his assistant John Gilmore are responsible for the excellent and professional sound and lighting.
It is through the generosity of our sponsors that we are able to have musicians of such a high level of professionalism entertain at these free concerts. We wish to acknowledge and thank the following sponsors:
Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill, Boiling Springs Savings Bank, Clemente Orthodontics, Care One at the Cupola & Care One at Pine Rest, Caldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Corp., Columbia Bank, Daily Treat Restaurant, Feeney Funeral Home, Hudson City Savings Bank, Keller Williams – Ridgewood, Kings Supermarkets, Park West Tavern, Rotary Club of Ridgewood AM, Ridgewood Dentistry – Warren Boardman DMD, The Ridgewood News, Tarvin Realtors, TD Bank, Ulrich, Inc.
